After firmware update Tacx Vortex will no longer connect to "Controllable" in Zwift. Does Garmin test the updates after they put them out? WTH?!

Try to rollback the firmware.
The old version of the firmware can be installed using the old versions (but not the latest version) of the Tacx utility app:
https://apkpure.com/tacx-utility/tacx.android.utility/versions
Don't forget to turn off automatic app updates.
Two ways to use the Tacx utility app.
The first way. Through firmware file with .tacxfirmware extension. For example, for Flux (S), Flow, Vortex, Genius and Bushido - through this file:
http://download.garmin.com/support/Fitness/Tacx/Flux_S/restore.tacxfirmware
After downloading, check the file name. It should not have the .zip extension.
Use this instruction by analogy (keep in mind that Neo 2 and firmware for Neo 2 are mentioned there):
https://tacxfaqx.com/knowledge-base/neo-2-firmware-0-0-18-rollback/
The second way. Install such an old version of the Tacx utility app, inside which there is the required firmware version.
Is the general consensus that this firmware update is garbage? I saw someone else was having trouble with a different feature on something other than Zwift after they updated the firmware and was given the same recommendation to regress.
and I'm screwed regarding the app. I have an iphone.
