Is there a way to force a firmware update on the Index? My scale's firmware shows 2.70.0.0 (current firmware version is 3.00). However, weight and all other data is syncing correctly to Garmin Connect.
I have the same issue. I bought the GISS a few days ago and my scales are still on 2.70 and my Garmin Connect web shows an update in the queue. Searching on the forum shows some suggestions about removing batteries/resetting, others use the ANT+ adapter however it is inclusive as to whether that works or is just coincidence from what I could see.
I raised a ticket and received the below response. It seems odd that you need to let it sit for up to two days when it is a device that is likely to be used daily (or more frequently). But I will try it..
"Hello,
I'll be happy to assist you today. Generally, if an update is available for the Index Smart Scale, you will need to use the scale, then let it sit for a day or two. Using the scale anytime during this period will disrupt the update process. Use the scale one time after receiving this email, verify your metrics show in Garmin Connect, and then allow the scale to Sleep for two days.
Thank you for choosing Garmin,

I had some small hope of this working (although, as TheSalamander points out, this is odd behavior for a daily-use device). But unfortunately not. Even after being left idle for two days, my scale is still stuck at firmware ver 2.70
I had a further response from Garmin Support and they are recommending I set up an RMA and exchange the unit. I'm just deciding whether to take that approach or to a free return to Amazon instead. I have asked whether the replacement unit will come with FW 3.00 already installed.
Same here. Garmin Support recommended that I exchange the unit with an RMA. I also bought my scale from Amazon, and am considering just returning it to Amazon.
I'm now wondering what the defect is that's causing this behavior.
As a final last gasp effort, I tried one more reset of the scale, this time using Garmin Express (Mac) and an ANT+ stick. The scale went through its setup process, and also showed the icons for a software update. When the setup was complete, the scale now appeared as a device in Gamin Express, but to my disappointment, in Garmin Connect the software still showed as ver 2.70.
But a day later, Presto! In GC, the software now showed as 3.00
I have no idea why this works, but it does. This is what I found. When the scale is set up using Garmin Connect Mobile (iOS) and Bluetooth, the software will not update, and remains stuck at ver 2.70; but when the scale is set up using Garmin Express and ANT+, the software gets updated properly.
Krectr - thanks for this. Over the weekend I ordered an ANT+ stick (arrives tomorrow), as was going to try a similar thing as a last attempt. The main difference is that I will have Garmin Express (PC) rather than Mac. Good to know that there is hope...
I have had the same experience as Krectr. No updates to FW via GMiOS/Bluetooth set up after 2 weeks.
Plugged an ANT+ stick into my PC, reset device, setup device, it showed the icon that an update was in process. According to Garmin Connect the software still showed as ver 2.70 however the next morning when I weighed myself and the scales synced the software now showed as 3.00 in Garmin Connect.
