WiFi and Connection issues

Hi...
I bought the Index a couple weeks ago.
First Impression - great.
Finally a scale that works with WLAN and the Garmin Portal.

After 3 days, it had a Problem finding my Router mornings, blinking, searching for the router.
I used my cell phone and checked the WLAN Configuration, everything was ok...exited the Settings and stepped on the scale again, the Scale worked fine.

3 days later the Same Problem, no internet connection...
Again i had to enter the Scales WLAN Configuration and exit the configuration (without changing anything) to get the scale to find the Internet.

2 Days Later...the same story
I tried the changing the Security settings (switched from WPA/WPA2 to just WPA2) in mey Router, still losing connection after 2-3 days of use.
I tried to use a different Access Point (Devolo WLAN 1200+), the Connection was lost the next day! Woke up, stepped on the scale and no internet. No Sync - even though i Setup the Devolo Access point the nicht before. the Access point works fine, my Cell Phone ist connected as well.

is this a Software Problem?
Anyone else having this problem?
The Scale is direct under my router, and the Devolo Access point was also an arm lenght away! Still losing the connection and no Syncing with the Portal

Anyone got this thing to work all the time?
Or am I missing a step in the Configuration.

Can anyone give me a tip?

We would like to request that users seeing the NTP server error please post with the below information, if you are comfortable doing so.
    • Location, e.g. Kansas, USA
    • Internet Service Provider
This appears to be an issue that only affects users in certain areas as we are unable to track down instances of this near the Kansas City area, but have a possible occurrence in Taiwan. We appreciate your help and thank you for the continued discussion here in the forums.

I was having the same issue with the scale hardly ever uploading data. No '>>>>>>>' shown on the display when weighing in. After changing my router configuration to use a different NTP server when requesting 'clock.garmin.com', my issue disappeared; Successful data upload every single time.

I tried testing the clock.garmin.com NTP server through some general NTP testing websites and compared it to the ntp.org and google NTP servers. The ntp.org and google NTP servers work flawlessly, but the garmin NTP only works in about 1 out of 20 attempts. So it's not like the garmin NTP server 'never' works, it's just completely unreliable.

As not every Garmin Index Smart Scale user is tech-savvy enough to reconfigure their routers (and not all routers support this change) this is not a viable solution.

So I guess there's two options here for Garmin:
    1. Fix whatever is causing the Garmin NTP server to malfunction
    2. Change configuration of the scale firmware to (temporarily) point to a reliable NTP server

    Hope this helps!

Your solution number 2 is to be preferred, with a slight change:
Change configuration of the scale to connect to common NTP servers.
I can't believe there is any technical reason to have the scale connect to an in-house server. It is only for tracking users.

I understand why you're saying that Garmin should just use a common NTP server. Makes sense, right? It's an easy fix that gets the job done and will please a lot of people.

But I also understand why, in general, Garmin would want to use their own NTP server for all Garmin timestamping purposes. I don't work for Garmin, so I can only guess why the scale itself would need such a connection and what the impact would be to the rest of the process when using a common NTP server or even no NTP server at all.

What I do know is that the people at Garmin have an NTP server related issue on their hands that has been impacting a lot of their customers for a long time. Whether that means that they fix their NTP server problem, (temporarily) use a common NTP server or switch off the scale's NTP request as a whole, that is up to them.
As customers, we all want to have a fully functioning product. That's why I'm opting for a 'reliable' NTP server connection.

Sorry to hijack the thread but my Index Scales (Version 3.0.0.0) keep doing the loading bar then hitting a cross, typically this would represent not being able to connect to wi-fi, however my weight st ll syncs to my Garmin account, not sure if the cross (X) means I need to update the scales? I used to get a tick but that hasn't happened for months despite having a weight synced for everyday...

    doesn't work 9 of 10 times

works randomly (once every four-five tries) and when it works it gives the X, but the data is being transferred.
