WiFi and Connection issues

Hi...
I bought the Index a couple weeks ago.
First Impression - great.
Finally a scale that works with WLAN and the Garmin Portal.

After 3 days, it had a Problem finding my Router mornings, blinking, searching for the router.
I used my cell phone and checked the WLAN Configuration, everything was ok...exited the Settings and stepped on the scale again, the Scale worked fine.

3 days later the Same Problem, no internet connection...
Again i had to enter the Scales WLAN Configuration and exit the configuration (without changing anything) to get the scale to find the Internet.

2 Days Later...the same story
I tried the changing the Security settings (switched from WPA/WPA2 to just WPA2) in mey Router, still losing connection after 2-3 days of use.
I tried to use a different Access Point (Devolo WLAN 1200+), the Connection was lost the next day! Woke up, stepped on the scale and no internet. No Sync - even though i Setup the Devolo Access point the nicht before. the Access point works fine, my Cell Phone ist connected as well.

is this a Software Problem?
Anyone else having this problem?
The Scale is direct under my router, and the Devolo Access point was also an arm lenght away! Still losing the connection and no Syncing with the Portal

Anyone got this thing to work all the time?
Or am I missing a step in the Configuration.

Can anyone give me a tip?

Tim
  • A thought on wifi and things not being transfered correctly

I got the Index when it first came out, had it set up with BT in less than 5 minutes, and been running fine since them.

But over that same time, I was having problems with other wifi devices in my house.

4 tablets or phones, 3 computers, thermostat, the scale, a comcast and a couple more..

I scratched my head, but then checked the specs on my wifi router. It was rated to handle 4 devices! (I had a few more than that!)

Upgraded to a router to one that would handle many more connects, and no problems since!

It might not be the scale - it's just that your wifi router is maxed out due to a new device being added!

    Happy

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
my problems have been solved at the monent.
Since I installed the ASus RT-AC68U, my scale has been working perfectly.

Cross your fingers that it stays that way!

  • Opposite problem

I have the opposite problem. I was having no WIFI connection problems until my BTHOMEHUB 5 developed a fault. I replaced it with a TP-LINK Archer VR200 router and tried to set up the index scales by pressing the reset button. The scales see the WIFI network and IOS asks "Enter the WPA2 password for my TP-LINK network" but responds with "Incorrect password". I also have a TP-Link range extender on the network (TP-LINK RE200) and the Index scales will not connect to that either, returning "incorrect password". Reconnecting my BTHOMEHUB5 (BROADBAND FAULT) and the scales connect to it first time. The scales are still on 2.50 firmware.

Interesting reading. Can you show me the spec where the BT Home Hub is only rated to supply 4 connected devices at once ? I've had all the Home Hubs since the original and have never seen that restriction, nor have I had problem connecting devices to it whether wired or wireless.
  • Exactly the same problem as me

I posted my problem here https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?344901-Wifi-Problem/page3

I even disabled the password, changed it to a simple 8 character password and still get the same error saying my password is incorrect. All my other wireless devices connect to the router without problem (Apple devices and Nexus tablets). As I mentioned in my post, above, if I connect my old BT router the scales connect instantly so it looks like a compatibility problem to me, Archer chipset?

I am loathed to return the scales, I know they work perfectly with my old router, but every wireless device I own works perfectly with this router, apart from the Index scales ...... dilemma.....

Nah. Most such restrictions are configurable within the router system; it was considered sensible to restrict just to the number of devices you are using and also use MAC filter for them. Not many users do that now. And I would doubt any router has a default setting as low as four. So you have probably gone to unnecessary expense in replacing your router when you could have changed the configuration of your previous one.

    Good for you.

Mine have never connected to the Garmin server with different routers and network unlike your case, therefore I am afraid it's not the problem of my router.
I have already requested the return of the Index Scale.

    Cheers,

  • Compatability issues with some TP-Link devices. Incorrect Password

My problem started when I replaced my faulty BT HOMEHUB 5 for a TP-Link VR200 VDSL2 modem/router. The index smart scales would no longer connect to the router via Wi-Fi. The scales could see the Wi-Fi but when I entered the password I received the response "Incorrect Password". My iPhone 6 connects to the router without problem and so does all the other Wi-Fi devices I own apart from the scales. I also have connected a TP-Link WA830RE access point (to extend the Wi-Fi range) and the scales connect to this without problem.

    After several days on the phone, and via email, I have received the following from TP-Link support;

Our senior engineer has checked the information for you. Sometimes some devices can not support the security type.
Now could you please try again?
On the VR200, in the wireless part, please choose the security type as “WPA-PSK” OR “WPA/WPA2 personnal” and choose the “Version” and “Encryption” to “Auto”.

If it’s still not working, we think it’s compatibility issue. On VR200 and 830RE, the wifi chip is different. And we are sincerely sorry that we did’t test the compatibility issue between the VR200 and the index scales. Maybe your index scales can only be compatible with 830RE.

    I have a case opened with Garmin and this is their reply;

If you are still getting an error message when entering the password from your Wi-Fi I suggest that you reset your router and contact the manufacturer to verify if it is meeting the requirements:

    • Connection - 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n - (5 GHz band and 802.11ac are not supported)
    • Security - Open, WEP*, WPA/WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES) - (WPA-Enterprise is not supported) *Please note that WEP security does not work with Index scales running version 2.10. Security setting must be changed to another option to complete setup of scale.

Yes the router does meet the requirements above. So now it looks like TP-Link are blaming Garmin and likewise Garmin are putting the blame at the door of TP-Link. Poor me is sat in the middle getting quite expert at resetting devices and trying different permutations of diagnostics but not getting a resolution to my problem.

What I can say with certainty is that every Wi-Fi device I own works with the router including smart TV's IOS devices, Android devices, Hive Heating system, Logitech Harmony remotes the only device with error connecting is the smart scales.

One other point, worth mentioning, is that the scales are on firmware 2.50 and have not updated. If I move them to the far side of the house I can get them to connect to the Wi-Fi access point, where it will download (upload) the readings to Garmin connect.

I still like the scales, and will keep them but I do feel that if there is a compatibility issue with some Wi-Fi routers (Archer chipset ?) and range extenders that this is made more widely known rather that putting the blame at another's doorstep then washing their hands.

Update 20-04-2016 scales updated to firmware 2.60.0.0. Still will not connect to the TP-Link VR200 router but connects to the TP-Link WA830RE access point.

    Finally wifi connected

Hi, I have a router TP Link Archer C2 and I've tried to configure the wifi connection trough my smartphone. The first day it was unsuccessful, then I got an usb ant and I've tried with the computer I could update to 2.60 but the wifi connection sent un error that said that it wasn't posible ton find the router. I configure my router with this: Security - Open, WEP*, WPA/WPA2-PSK (TKIP/AES) - (WPA-Enterprise is not supported) *Please note that WEP security does not work with Index scales running version 2.10. Security setting must be changed to another option to complete setup of scale. And the scale worked fine but still in my phone it showed that the the wifi connection wasn't complete I've tried for about two hours and nothing. Today morning I tried again with my smartphone after weighting me and finally was completed the connection. I'm sure that there's a mistake with the software and Garmin has to work on that. All the appliances works fine with my router my Fenix3, Chomecast, smartphones etc. Not the Garmin index.
    Excuse my English.

GARMIN INDEX SCALe don't see wifi

I have the same problem. My GARMIN INDEX SCALE connect to my wifi only during the configuration. After it never found the wifi even if my garmin index scale is 1 meter of my box. I hope it only a firmware problem. (For information I have test with a TIME CAPSULE last version and a SFR box)
