Muscle Mass and Bone Mass Values (And how does it calculate them)

I have myself a brand new Garmin Index scale (thanks to those who answered by prepurchase question in other threads on this forum).

While I find the information intersting, Garmin provide little information about how it should be used. Information on what your Body Fat %, BMI and even Water % can easily be found on like and correlate with what my scale is telling me.

Muscle Mass and Bone Mass though it is harder to find how to use this information. For Bone Mass, I did read that "a lean man is theoretically made up of about 15 percent bone". I am not that lean (BMI of 25~26) but it is telling me my Bone Mass is 6.5Kg which seems to be low against the 15% rule. Given I have always drunk a lot of milk and had very little Caffeine or carbonated drinks, my bones should be pretty good.

Can anyone shed some light on *how* the Index scale calculates Bone Mass and Muscle Mass?

Can anyone provide a link to how to usefully use this information and what an ideal or "normal" result would be.

Finally, a suggestion to Garmin: Please provide more information on what the data means in Connect.
