A new Garmin watch to replace Garmin Swim this year??

Hello everybody,

I am looking for a watch to monitor my swimming activities. Garmin Swim seems to be the best to fill my need. This watch is almost 2 years old (June 2012), I think there would be soon the future Garmin swimming watch generation.

2 years seems to be the mean time so that Garmin make a new version of a product.

I would prefer not to buy a Garmin Swim if a new watch appears two months later on the market... Do you have any informations about a next Swimming Garmin product?

Thanks.

Not a squeak... though you'd think, what with all the talk around the android watches and health stuff from Google and now Apple, that the drive must be on to create a Garmin sports/health watches that work with your smartphones more closely... possibly using Android Wear technologies to drive the watch OS? http://www.android.com/wear/

Of course the challenge is how to keep costs down. Adding additional bells and whistles courtesy of Android Wear to a second generation Swim Watch would probably bump up the price point quite a bit I'd imagine...

And frankly, what the Swim does it does well at the moment, so I'm not sure whether, for swimmers at least, the move to a much more advanced sports watch for the pool would be desirable... especially if it got bigger in the process. Then there's the issue of needing to frequently charge it. I like that I can currently pop a battery in and forget it for 9 to 12 months.

    Cheers

I'd like the swim v2 to have gps and fewer buttons. Rest timer should be default; either hit stop/save or your doing sets so why select that? I would guess the FR 15 could do it with right firmware. Plus you'd have activity tracking. 4 buttons, gps, activity tracking?! Hmmm.....

GPS would inevitably make it bulkier in the water. That's a compromise too far IMHO as it's already a little bit chunky as it is.

    Just my view...

The vivoactive may be a possibility. Does swim tracking and bike/run via gps.
With a Connect IQ app it may well be possible to get all sorts of features for it.
  • I'm wondering the same thing. The price on the Garmin Swim is very attractive, but the watch is almost 3 years old now, anyone know if a new version is coming out soon? I'd hate to get it just to hear that a new version is coming out...

    Thanks in advance.

In the last 3 weeks I bought a Garmin Swim and a FR225. Now they've just announced the FR230/235 :( So I expect a Swim 2 will be imminent ;-)

    I really hope so.

    something to consider..

Hi folks, just my 2 pence worth...

I sold my Garmin swim in June this year so I could upgrade to the Fenix 3. It's got a lot more of what I wanted and also features I don't need but it is good. My main issue with the F3 is that it isn't as reliable for swimming as the Garmin Swim was. My Garmin Swim had every single lap perfect. Yet it never had my stroke detected correctly. The F3 doesn't get the stroke correct that often either. The lap distances are not always right - it may just be my swim technique as some other users say it has been spot on every time.

If you're looking at upgrading to the F3 more from a swimming point of view - the main things are obviously the data has to be correct, but without trying it out, you'll never know. There are lots of other features you would use too - I believe it has the capacity to link with optical HR swim specific belts now if you're interested in that. The GPS function takes care of outdoor swims too - and I believe this has been polished quite well know. I've not swam outdoors since the upgrade though so can't verify any of my reservoir swim data yet.

The watch needs its battery charging about once a week too. I know my Garmin swim lasted >12 months without needing a battery change and I was a little anxious after swapping it but it was fine.

One thing that I did immediately notice was the weight / size of it while swimming - took a while to get used to.

And yeah, its 3 x the price of a garmin swim but has more than 3 x the amount of features if you are keen on other activities as well as swimming.

Because the F3 is a bit of a flagship product, I'm not entirely sure they will be imminently releasing a new Garmin Swim device.

The F3 has had its problems, but they are slowly getting ironed out. I'm glad I upgraded as I bike and run too. Most sports are catered for so it was inevitable for myself. Have a good read up on the forum first to make your mind up - you could be waiting a long while for a GS 2! By then there will be some cheaper F3 options for sale!
  • Any news there ?
Garmin Swim is almost 4 years old now.
I hope and hope to see new dedicated swim watch from Garmin that can replace the old good one, but there is still nothing for years ... It seems there will never be Garmin Swim 2. Nor Fenix 3 (too bulky and requires frequent charging), nor Vivoactive series (no workouts, requires frequent charging) nor vivosmart (no realtime data) can replace it ...
