How to record a training session?

What's the best way to record a session such as the following:

1. Swim, mix of free and back, Z1, 300m.
2. Kick, Z1, 25m. Rest, 20 seconds. Drill, Z1, 50m. Rest, 20 seconds. Swim, Z1, 75m. Rest, 20 seconds. Repeat 5 times.
3. Pull or swim, Z1, 150m.

Today I did that as three separate sessions, so saved three times and have three records in my activity list.

Is this the best plan - or would it work to just pause in-between each item?

Also - can you use Drill in the middle of an existing session- I didn't do that for 2 above which meant the Drill (catch up) and Kick was not recorded correctly.

Many thanks for you help
  • Hi,

Drill logging could definitely be used to keep everything in the same session. Drill Logging can be enable before or during a session. But if you do drills often, you'll want to enable it before and leave it on for all you sessions. To enable drill logging, use the bottom-left button, select Swimming, select Drill Log, select Enable. What it will do is add a page that can be displayed using the blue button. There are 5 possible pages on the Swim:

    1) Interval Time/distance
    2) Total Time/distance
    3) Interval/Length summary
    4) Drill logging (if enabled)
    5) Custom fields (if enabled)

So once drill logging is enabled, and you're in a session and ready to do drills, what you do is go to the drill logging Page using the blue button. Push Start to begin logging drills. The watch will display running time since you start drill logging. When you're finished, hit the stop button. The watch will enter rest mode and ask for distance. Suppose you did drills for 2 minutes, and you're swimming in a 25m pool and did 4 laps, you would enter 100m. The watch will create a 2 minutes interval with 4 lengths of 30 seconds. To leave Drill logging and resume normal swimming, push the blue button to go to the interval time/distance page.

An example for your training session

Blue button to create new session
    Start
Do part 1 of you training
    Pause
Go to Drill logging page using blue button
    Start
Do part 2 of your training
    Stop
    Enter 750m as distance (25+50+75) *5
Go to Interval time/Distance page using blue button
    Unpause
Do part 3 of you training
    Pause
    Stop
    Save

On last thing you should know about drill logging is that at the en of the session, the watch calculate an average Stroke per length, by dividing total Strokes by total lengths (including drill length). So your SPL avg for the session might not be what you expect, and in my opinion, it's a bug. But the SPL avg for individual intervals will be fine.

You can see an example of an activity with drills.

  • Many thanks for the reply - that makes sense - I am going to try it in my next session.

    Thanks once again.

    Cheers
