Garmin Swim 3.6 Update - What is new? Couldn't find any release notes...

Anyone able to find it?
  • "Improved transition from rest to active swimming"

Do we have to press the pause button when we rest? I press it each time I stop and when I start again.

I only swim freestyle and I think my watch have been working flawlessly, didn't update yet.

Yes, you still need to press Pause when you begin your rest and when you resume swimming.

    Hi, a question:

Within SWIMMING menu there are two options that I can not understand:

    1) SWIMMING / Alert Tones - is it for? how it works? - (Interestingly, the alarm would sound to reach x meters and the user can define the variable x.) but I'm afraid that's not it, right?

    2) SWIMMING / Stroke Type - Automatic is obvious, but "Turn off" that leaves the default style? Freestyle?

    thank you very much
  • 1) Disabling Alert Tones just turns off the "parakeet in a blender" tone that you hear when you pause or unpause. (Credit to DC Rainmaker for naming that one.) The idea of sounding an alert at a given distance is a good one - we call it a Distance Alert. The Forerunner 910 has this feature because it has a vibe motor. In our rather extensive testing of different swimmers and tones on the Garmin Swim, we haven't be able to find a tone, or combination of tones, that is consistently audible when swimming. (The unpause tone is usually heard because the swimmer is streamlining off the wall at that point - good hearing conditions.)

    2) When stroke type ID is off, stroke type shows up as Unknown on Garmin Connect and the watch displays "---" . This option was put in primarily for people who only ever do one stroke anyway (most likely freestyle) and get stroke type identification errors.

Did you re-enable it? If the update does a reset of the watch the setting will go back to default which is off.

Allright. There is a stroke recognation improvement at firmware 3.6, expecially doing medley swimming.
But stroke recognition when doing 1500m free style is still bad because of too much random backstroke errors.

Indeed. Version 3.4 was very accurate for me. Since upgrading to 3.6, I have done 2 swims, my watch has miscounted my laps and also recorded 13 backstroke lengths instead of freestyle or breaststroke!!

I don't expect it to be 100% accurate , but 3.6 seems far less accurate than 3.4

    I wish I had stuck to version 3.4 :(
  • If the stroke ID is disabled, how are calories properly calculated? What stroke is it using as default to calculate calorie consumption?

I would much rather have seen an option to force a certain stroke type, not leave it blank all together. And IMO, this is NOT the right way to deal with stroke type identification errors: 6 months after purchasing my swim I am increasingly disappointed at the fact that there still is no option to make manual adjustments to misrecorded stroke types/laps.
