Edit Data in Garmin Connect

@ Garmin support: I am very dissapointed about the lack of editing function on garmin connect. The Garmin Swim produces some bad data, so a lot of functions (eg averages, min/max pace) are useless. I will return my watch if there is no chance to edit my data in near future.
  • Have a look at the Fit File Repait Tool (http://fitfilerepairtool.info) which allows you to identify and correct such spikes easily.
You import your .fit or .tcx file, do the corrections and export or upload the file within 2-3 minutes. The tool requires a Windows PC.

  • Hi,

Garmin 310XT was never intended for lap swimming in a pool. It will NOT work, simple as that. It only supports open water swimming. The Garmin Swim, FR910 and Fenix 2 are the only devices that will allow you to log lap Swimming. These three devices are pretty accurate, although, they do miss or add an extra lap now and then. The technology is not perfect (and probably never be) and the watch is sometime confused by what's happening in the pool. If you apply the advice from those FAQ, you should get a pretty accurate count.

Why am I experiencing errors with my pool swimming distance?
Can traffic from other swimmers in my lane cause distance errors when Pool Swimming?

Even if there are sometimes mistakes, you can still get useful information from the watch. Most users understand the limitations and live with them. Some wish they could edit the data. Unfortunately, Garmin Connect does'nt allow that. But you can do it on my website for free and import the edited data back to connect.

Generally, swimming etiquette dictates that the swimmers pass one another at the end of the lane, rather than in the middle. If this etiquette is adhered to, then the lane traffic will not impact accuracy of the swim data on the watch.

Is this really generally accepted etiquette? I've been swimming lanes for years and years and in my experience if you're swimming anything other than butterfly there is room to pass in the middle of the lane. This also prevents the issue of people who don't understand a) the etiquette of allowing someone who is faster than you to swim by you before starting your next length and b) how to choose the right lane to begin with when suggested lane speed is clearly marked out on the boards at the end of each lane.

    +1 for garmin connect editing

Today I rode with my Edge 510. I forget to finish/save when I threw the bike in the back of the car (not the first time, especially when I'm exhausted).

Luckily I also transfer my cycling data to Strava. Strava even noticed that some of the data looked dodgy (like speeds > 100kmh), and offered me a cropping tool to fix it - easy peasy!

+1 for adding edit ability to Garmin Connect (though I doubt the Garmin developers care).

After 3 months of regular use, the Swim remains so unreliable that I have to use the SwimWatchTools editor to fix the FIT file after almost every swim. Always use the same 25m pool, I do a strong push & glide on every lap, I wear the watch snugly on my non-dominant arm... and most of the time I have the entire lane to myself, so I'm never stopping or changing strokes mid-pool, ever. Yet there's always at least one miscounted lap, or some of the lap times are way way off, though it always seems to get the stroke type correct. Very frustrating.

My Fenix 2 is a bit more reliable than my Garmin Swim, but still the occasional lap is added. Same as above: tumble turn, strong push and glide with non-dominant arm. Just being able to edit the number of lengths in a given interval afterwards, preferably on the Android app as well, would be great.

+1 for me as well. Please add editing capabilities such as merging laps on swims and correcting Heart Rate date on runs.
  • +1 for this feature request. I try my best to correctly command my Garmin 910XT but more frequently than I'd like, I end up forgetting to hit the Lap button in a transition zone or Stop at the end of a session. Having the ability to edit the data within Garmin Connect would be fantastic. I used instamapper.com with my phone years ago and it provided a basic, yet, very useful editing capability. The data was presented in a tabular format along with a map so that you can select a row in the table and visualize it on the map. You could then delete data but it would be handy to provide an edit capability. My HRM occasionally shows a spike in my heart rate so I would love to edit these points as well.

+1 for me too! Is there any one at Garmin reading this? Post initiated in August 2012!
