optical sensor is always on

I have had my watch for several years now. And suddenly the battery life tanked to just one 10min activity. I noticed the only thing that has changed, is that the optical sensors (green lights) are always on except for when I have it plugged in to charge. Any advice? Was there a recent software upgrade that's caused an issue?

Thank you!

  • Some additional information: in the device settings from Garmin Connect, there is the ability to turn th wrist heart rate off. When I do this and resync, the optical sensor correctly responds and the green light goes off. But when that is not set, the green light stays on and the battery drains in a short time (<20min) even when not doing any activities. I have tried to restore defaults from the watch settings, and that has made no difference. I’m running software version 21.00 (2b0273c).
