It looks grey and wishy washy because it uses a transflective display. The good things about that is that it has great visibility in sunlight and doesn’t use a lot of energy so it’s great for battery life. The downside is that colors doesn’t look that bright and livid.
Other watches, mainly smartwatches, use oled, which looks very colorful, but you have to charged those watches every day or so. For me, I’m willing to trade in looks for functionality.
Why it looks better in the ads? Well, that’s marketing. Everything looks great in the ads.
