Pro & Cons - Usage of Forerunner + Edge device for MTB

Hello,

i own a Garmin Forerunner 935 and a Garmin EDGE 130.

The Forerunner has Fitness Level tracking like VO2max, Recovery-Time, Training-Load etc.

Until now i tracked all of my Mountainbike-Trips with my EDGE 130

--> I thought i can permanently share the HeartRate from my Forerunner with my EDGE and still can use my watch --> It seems that the watch can not be used anymore, once it is in HR-sending-mode

Now im struggling if i should only track my MTB-trips with my forerunner and only use my Edge for navigation.

Im afraid that the MTB-Trips will not have any effect on the Fitness Level shown on my forerunner --> is this correct?

So it seems to me that i only have disadvantages if i keep tracking my activity via the EDGE.

The only disadvantage for tracking my trips with the forerunner could be the lower battery life?

Im just not sure what variant is best and which Pros/Cons in the specific cases will be there

A. Tracking with EDGE 130 and recieving HR from Forerunner --> No usage of forerunner possible and no effect on Fitness level???

B. Tracking with Forerunner and only navigating with EDGE 130 --> Low battery Life of forerunner???

C: Usage of EDGE 130 as external Display --> Only disadvantages in my opinion? Low battery life and less good navigation???

Maybe someone could help me to figure this out ... thanks ...

  • You can transmit heart rate from the FR935 during an activity. Look for “Broadcast During Activity” under heart rate options. I use this function often.

As to your dilemma, well I use the FR 935 for runs and multi sport and my Edge 1030 when it’s just biking (road/MTB). I’m fairly in touch with my fitness level so I don’t worry too much about what the edge/FR tell me, but I find this combination works pretty well.

  • Thank you very much!

You are right this is a addition option ... anyway this would mean that i would have to do all the tracking on my forerunner and hopefully the battery keeps alive also during longer rides (maybe setting GPS to UltraTrac can do this?)

For navigation i then use my well attached Edge 130

Thanks a lot for your optinion!
