Discrepancy between Active Calories in an Activity and Active Calories in Calorie Widget.

Since I updated my Forerunner 935 to the latest 15 update, i noticed a massive discrepancy between my active calories in the calorie widget, and the calories burned during an activity.

Basically, If i do an 8 mile run in 1 hour, and burn 1,200 calories during that run, as shown in the activity in Connect, the Calorie Widget will only show that i've burned 600 Active Calories.

Something else i've noticed is that, i no longer log vigorous minutes in my app anymore, at the same time i was experiencing this calorie bug. Is anyone experiencing the same?

  • Yes! I am experiencing the same problem!!!

  • The calories used in an activity used to match active calories in the calorie widget minus resting calories used for the time period . With the latest updates to 15.0 and 15.1 they are wildly different. For example today I did a 45 minute trainer ride. The calories using Trainerroad and my garmin was 347 yes the calorie widget only shows 125. I only burn 1457 for an entire day of resting calories so the difference is way out of proportion!

Same issue here. 1000 active calories for a very quiet day ! It happen since the last update !

  • I had the opposite problem. Very few active calories.

Same problem for me. It's really ruining my training planning, I just don't know what to believe!

Yes!  Ive just posted the same question.  Since the last 15.10 update my calorie count has dropped massively and there is a big discrepancy between active calories as you've suggested.

I have found the calories section of this watch to be very poor. I previously used a heart rate monitor which linked to an app. The calories which I burn whilst doing either running, cycling or strength training are half that which I previously burned. I have double checked the original belt by using a website based on average heart rate and it was correct with the belt. The Garmin figures are considerably lower. Very disappointing as one of my main tools of monitoring my activity was the calories and now I feel deflated after a hard session.

  • I seem to have the same problem.

I've spent enough time reading all of these calories replies to become convinced that there is an issue, and Garmin ain't about to fix it.  But I have, inadvertently, found a part work around (not a solution).

My issue?  It's the fact that the "Active Calorie count" on the App is not adding the calories from my swimming activity (not sure if this applies to other activities, such as running, but it's certainly the case for swimming).

Example: today I swam 2 hours in my pool (5K) and I was really curious to see the impact on my total calories.  Well, in the calories line I only had 450 from active, whereas in the swim activity it showed 2050.

Workaround? It's bizarre because I did not actually know that this was an issue in the Garmin App as I track my calories on a nutrition app (CRONOMETER) and it's when this was also not being tracked on the nutrition app that I tried to dig into this via the CRONOMETER Helpdesk. that's when I discovered the issue on the Garmin.   The nutrition all helpdesk helped me fix this so I now have the active calories being tracked in my Total Calories through CRONOMETER - but not on the Garmin App.

I don't think Garmin is going to address this.  Some of these posts date to 3 years ago.......I am just being pragmatic: I have a solution that I can live with

  • Same with me. Did the last Update 2 das ago and yesterday I burned over 10.000 kcal.
