Use of 935 with Android phone and AfterShokz Air

I think I'm getting a bit Bluetooth challenged.  I just got some new AfterShokz Air Bluetooth headphones that I use to listen to music which is on my phone.  The only problem is that it seems I now have to lose getting notifications on my 935 regarding email or phone calls, correct?  Namely, the phone can't be connected to the AfterShokz for music and connected to the 935 for notifications, right?  Or am I missing something?  I would hate having to lose those convenient 935 notifications of calls and email messages.

  • Ok, my bad.  I didn't think I would be able to access the phone with my 935 at the same time that the phone was connected to my wireless headphones, because earlier I had been unable to connect my wireless headphones after my 935 and phone were connected.  Too new to this, but maybe the trick is to first connect the headphones before turning on my 935.

Anyway, it turns out that the functionality is exactly what I would have wanted.  :-)

  • Hello I can't confirm for an android phone, but on my Iphone I have no issue to have my Aftershokz titanium connected to my phone with my watch connected to the phone. in the mean time my watch is connected to the HR brand, Speed sensor and cadence sensor. No matter the order of the connection

  • Only oddness I've seen so far is that if I have the Aftershokz and Garmin connected to my phone, then when I go to drive to my running place and try to listen to my phone music over the car's bluetooth connection, it just tells me that it is unable to play music from my phone.

  • Yes for sure it is because music can only be sent to one device (maybe the last android phones are multipoint)

  • I guess I just didn't totally understand Bluetooth.  My 935 can connect to several Bluetooth devices at the same time, eg heart rate monitor, footpod, phone, etc.  But it seems the phone can only connect to one Bluetooth device at a time.  The Aftershokz do have a multipoint capability, but doesn't that just mean that they can accept music (sound?) from more than one device at the same time?  Not sure why that would be useful.  Perhaps to listen to a Bluetooth enabled mp3 player and get phone calls at the same time.

  • Basically, it has to do with the number of Bluetooth channels and whether the device is master or slave. Your watch is a master device when it connects to Bluetooth sensors/slaves. Your phone is a master device when it connects to Bluetooth devices including earphones, sensors, and your watch.

A master device can maintain connections to several slave devices at the same time, but a slave device can only maintain one connection to the master. Some devices such as newer heart rate monitors can broadcast as two devices so they can connect to two devices at once, but they appear as two separate devices.

  • Ah.  Guess I was thinking the phone was a slave device to the 935 since I can use the 935 to start/stop/change volume/etc  the music.

Wouldn't my car be a slave device to my phone then? So it would seem that the phone could send to two slave devices at the same time, namely car and earphones.
