HRM Tri battery is empty after couple days

Hi,

after the battery of my belt was empty after couple months, I changed the battery and it didn´t work. In total I tried 4 batteries and no one worked.

Afterwards I tried all on an older belt from my Edge 510 and all of them worked. I bought new Varta´s and tried again. The belt worked for 2 days. Insert a new one and again it worked for couple days. Right now I changed again the battery and it doesn´t work.

What is wrong with my belt? Why is the battery empty after couple days? Should I use different brand of battery? The last two changes I had no issue and the lifetime of each was at least a half year.

Regards Manuel

  • I had exactly the same problem. I’ve always used HRM Tri and Swim straps with no problem, replacing the battery on each maybe once every 6 monfhs.

Then the battery on the Tri strap failed, was replaced, then failed again only a few days later. Got through about 6 batteries in one month before logging a fault with Garmin.

Got a replacement and it’s been fine since. Just one of those things I guess.

  • Same thing happened to me. i replaced the original battery with one i had in a drawer still in the package but not sure on how long i had it. i paired it back with my 935 as i had to reset it. worked one day. i thought something was wrong with the strap or maybe the firmware drained it fast. i bought a new battery and it has been working since. i am using 14.10

  • Same problem with HRM Run or Tri, after 2-3 months of use with original battery ( short life time regarding 10-12 months annonced by garmin !) , the strap works 2 weeks and battery is off !!!

This is the 5th HRM Run/Tri i have with exact the same problem, none worked more than 4months !!!

HRM Run/Tri have a big problem in design and reliability !

  • THX for the answers. I will try a batterie from a different brand. If it doesn´t work I will get in contact with Garmin.

  • take a look if there any water/sweat ingestion into the battery compartment. my last HRM Run failed due to a slightly broken plastic case (very near one of the screws) that allow water/sweat in; electronics were still functional but battery drained in 1 or 2 days. solved by Garmin with a warranty replacement.

Have the same problem with my HRM, I had the feeling it drained because it stays paired with the watch even not in use, but of course its annoying to switch off every time. At the beginning I was able to pair again by unpairing and rebooting the watch but now it only works with battery change every 2 weeks. So time to contact the Garmin service I guess ....

Update: In fact my case seems to be broken where the screws fit in! See picture, very poor quality...lets see what Garmin support will tell me.

  • same damage as mine, warranty replacement expected ;)

Hi ! Sounds good! May I ask how you contacted them? I‘ve sent a mail but one week now went by and NO answer...the service quality is really that horrible for such premium price products ?!

  • I am lucky enough to have a multi brand tech repair center that is also a Garmin collect point for warranty/repair, 500m near from home... and the warranty request procedure is not the same in every country, sorry
