ANT+ <-> BLE bridge?

Hi all...

Given devices like 4iiii's viiiiva and NPE Cable, I was wondering if it would be possible to have such a feature in the FR935... The FR935 has ANT+ and BLE, so presumably, this should only be a S/W issue...

  • Assuming it is possible, what exactly is the use you have in mind for such a feature? The 935 is a sports watch that can record data from external ANT+ and BLE sensors. Where do you see the need for it to provide a bridge function between ANT+ and BLE?

  • Absolutely right. I am looking to hookup to Zwift while riding outdoors. :-)

    Currently using NPE. Works great.

    Possibly, this may belong to one of Edge devices forums?
  • Still not sure what it is you are trying to do. Receive data over ANT+ and re-transmit on BLE?
  • I assume he wants to use his watch to receive ANT+ signals and re-transmit them, though Bluetooth. I dont know what good this would do unless he wants to have his iPhone display the information using some app.
    I am assuming he has an iPhone since, well, it seems that most android phones have ant+ built it. My work Galaxy S8 does
  • Unfortunately (?), no iPhone or Samsung here (only Xiaomi...but a nice one!). No phone I am ware of but Samsung has ANT+ support.

    What I am looking for is going for a ride outside, and *at the same time*, riding Watopia (for example.) As my phone (using Android Zwift app.) can only do Bluetooth (and Android Zwift app only supports BT, AFAIK), and my sensors are ANT+, a bridge must be there in order for this to work. Up until now I've bee using NPE cable (and am pleased with it.)

    So, just wondering (proposing?) it be a great addition to FR935 already great set of features (or Edge 820's ?)
  • If a CIQ data field has the ability to broadcast ANT+ or BLE, it would lead to many interesting applications. e.g. instead of calculating virtual power into a FIT file, the data field could also broadcast the virtual power into a different application such as Zwift.
  • It's technically possible to make a datafield in CIQ to broadcast over ANT+, but CIQ does not give access to BLE
  • Too bad.
    I'm still postponing buying the new Forerunner 945, as I won't start running till early next year (concentrating on losing some weight first and doing some biking). I was hoping to find a way to send the heart rate data from my smartwatch (Original Huawei smartwatch, not the best but better than nothing) to my Edge 820 bike computer.
    But the smartwatch sends BT, and the Edge 820 expects ANT+.
    Normally I take my Galaxy A40 smartphone along as well on my rides and that one has both, but haven't found a bridge app that does BT -> ANT+, normally they do it the other way around.
