5 or 6-field data screen

Garmin only offers up to 4-field data screen. In order to display more data on one screen, Connect IQ has to be used.

Anyone has the same wish as mine that Garmin would add 5-field or 6 field data screen as options in future firmware updates. The additional 2 fields could be used to display some data using less space.
  • CJOttawa I use Single Run Field too, but it's only lightly customizable and only useful for running. I would LOVE like eight fields like Suunto allows in a Garmin watch. I'd love to be able to add Power to Single run field (for Styrd), I'd love it if we could use more than just 2 CIQ apps at a time.

Maybe the next generation. Send feature requests to Garmin; they listen apparently.

I think 4 is perfect. Easy to read while moving. Why not create another data field and use the 3 speed settings on auto scroll, or manually scroll? +1 on more than 2 CIQ apps.
  • Personally, I think that 6 fields is okay while running, but I wouldn't go much higher, except for the case of Dozen Run, where some of the secondary fields are smaller and not really necessary while running.

I think 7 or 8 fields (of the same size) would be too much for me.

Sorry to jump in here and promote my own app, but I have a "single run field" (2-6 fields) which supports Power in run mode (including Stryd), for all watches that support apps. (The app even supports Power for non-multisport watches, which don't support Power natively.)

You could even use it for cycling, if you want to try a power meter and you don't have a multisport watch.

    Run Power:

I'm the first to admit it doesn't look as pretty as Single Run Field, but it supports 100s of metrics if customizability is your jam. It also supports power zones and alerts (beep/vibe/visual), as well as color-coded HR, Power and Cadence.

Supported metrics are all combos of
    - Lap, Last Lap, Total/Current
    - Avg, 3/10/30s, Min, Max
    - Time, Speed, Pace, Cadence, Distance, HR, HR Zone, HR %Max, HRR%
Power, Power Zone, Efficiency Factor, Efficiency Index, Power/HR, Running Effectiveness,
    Normalized Power, Intensity Factor, %FTP
    Calories, Elevation, Ascent, Descent

e.g. Max HR, Last Lap Max HR, 3s Pace, Lap Pace

(I know that aesthetics are important to most of us, so I'll just say that I'm more motivated to work on apps that have more downloads and positive reviews....)

Also, if this isn't quite what you're looking for, I wouldn't mind hearing why.
  • use the 3 speed settings on auto scroll, or manually scroll?

The auto scroll on even the slowest setting is too fast. If they gave us finer control on the scroll (ex: Screen time before scroll [x seconds] pause on stop) then I'd be fine, but I've always found it to be cumbersome.

Would you be able to make it to support running dynamics metrics (i.e. VO, GCT etc.)? Thanks

Agree that all Single Run Field screens in CIQ don't have much choices on preferred metric and 2 CIQ restriction by Garmin is annoying too.
  • Yan_Huang Unfortunately, VO, GCT, etc are not available to CIQ data fields as native metrics. Any possible support in a ciq app would require making a second direct ANT+ connection from the app to the footpod, which would only be possible for Stryd and not a normal footpod (which only supports one connection). In your case it would be moot as there is not enough memory for CIQ data fields on 935 to add this support. Besides I have emailed Stryd asking for specifics on adding this support and they never got back to me, besides an initial acknowledgment of the question.

As for your other comment on choices, I have two “single run fields” (well 6 field apps anyway) which have a choice of over 100 metrics: Lap+ and Run Power. And you don’t have to literally select from a list of 100+ metrics, but you select from 3 small lists (no more than 20-ish items.) I don’t know of any other apps that have this level of customization for metrics. Not even Garmin lets you select Max HR or Last Lap Max HR, but my two apps do.

While they have a small number of downloads and positive reviews in their couple of months of existence, the response is nothing like Single Run Field or Dozen Run or any of the other popular single run fields. I can only conclude that there just isn’t any interest in flexibility.

Or maybe my data fields just don’t look good? But nobody left a review saying they liked the concept but hated the aesthetics. Besides, the most beautiful data field in the store (Trendy Run imo) has very few downloads.

Maybe you guys have some other ideas? What would your ideal single run field look like and what would it do?
  • Also, in the interest of fairness, here is a fairly flexible 7-field data field (not made by me). Maybe it’s closer to what ppl really want.

I found just the opposite. I had the setting on slow and went to medium speed because I found I was waiting on the next screen and I was manually advancing it anyway. If it moves to fast for you on the slowest setting, it makes sense to have a single screen with up to 8 fields.

FlowState I'm one of your positive reviewers with your Run Power app and I feel it's easily one of the best data fields available. I use it with 4 data fields displayed. It does seem like people want more fields, so if you decide to change your app, please leave an option for 4 fields for people like me. :)
