LiveTrack?

Is LiveTrack supposed to work with the 935? For me it doesn't... If I in the app (iOS) select autostart and prolong LiveTrack, then start an activity on the watch the app detects that, does something but them it looks like it resets and the manual "start LiveTrack" button gets visible again. And no email is generated...
What am I doing wrong? Do I lack some app or watch settings?
  • You're doing it right, but you don't have to open the app to start the tracking, if LiveTrack autostart is selected beforehand. When you start an activity on the watch (and your phone is in reach and connected), after some time (few seconds but sometimes a few minutes) you'll get a notification on the FR935 that LiveTrack has started. After that the email is generated. That is how it *should* work. I have problems with LiveTrack these days, it doesn't always start or stop when it should, doesn't always display my position, sometimes picks up the track very late. That's probably an issue in the mobile app and/or in the software on the back-end servers that run the LiveTrack service.

Edit: today I got a watch notification that Livetrack had started, but the email was never generated. It seems things are not improving, unfortunately.
  • Just tested a manual start, the watch does not react (as it does on my girlfriends Vivoactive3). Did a soft reset of the 935, no difference.Feels like something is broken here then...?
  • FYI, got this working by logging out and then in again in CGM.

I was having issues with LiveTrack auto start when I had the 'Extend LiveTrack' option turned on. Logging in and out would fix it temporarily but it would sometimes auto start and sometimes not start at all, or would start after a mile or two. I have not had any issues since I turned off Extend LiveTrack.
  • You might have a different problem, but it seems that Live Track is broken due to Garmin Connect on Android after version 4.8.

    Here's a forum topic I found: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into...eemed-critical

It really blows my mind that Garmin couldn't fix this over ~2 months of saying they know about this issue and handle it as high priority... It is easily reproducible, and fixed by downgrading to GC 4.8. Garmin's handling of this issue (or not handling it actually) and especially their communication (or the lack of it) about a known serious issue is what worrying and makes me not trust the company. Anyhow, here's an APKMirror link to GC 4.8 that might help:

  • Well, as I wrote, I got it to work and use an iPhone...
But the next (stupid?) question is, does the app need to be running on the iPhone during the activity? Today I used it "for real" for the first time, and phone battery went from 80% to 20% in one hour with the app running... -5 celcius could of course have something to do with it as well, but still it seems like a huge drain
  • This would be a question for the Garmin Connect Mobile - iOS forum, but if it's like android, Garmin Connect runs in the background., thereby allowing LiveTrack to auto-start.
  • Sadly, for many users, this isn't just an auto start problem. Even if I manually start livetrack, the watch doesn't start streaming the track when the exercise starts. Clicking on the livetrack link just shows Africa (I'm in North America) . When the exercise ends, the livetrack in gcm doesn't end either. I have to manually stop it, having streamed nothing,. If I use extended track, I still see Africa after manually stopping.

If anyone knows a way to fix this other than reverting to a really old version of the gcm app, please post.
  • No issues for me with LiveTrack. I use it often when on bike to let my girlfriend know where I am and that I'm ok. I don't use the auto start option, I start it manually. I use GCM on iOS. Battery drain on iPhone is not that significant like as described by oBuTTuSo, tours of 4+ hours are possible.

Today, after denying CGM access to location services and keeping the iPhone closer to my body, the phone battery went from 89% to 83% in 45 minutes. So now I can use LiveTrack and both the watch and phone battery will last longer than me :-)
