activity not registered in connect or "last sport"

So I ran yesterday, the activity is in the history and my vo2max was updated, but there was some kind of error when i saved, the blue triangle for 10s then straight to watch face. Now the activity is not in connect even though all other data is synced correctly and it doesn't show up in the last sport widget. It's not a big deal but If i can manually sync this activity it would be nice since i use the watch mostly for following up my training. Manually getting the .fit file over usb maybe? Any idea what may have gone wrong?

for the record i'm using the 11.57 beta.

I'm not very hopeful, but perhaps it did write a (partial) file:
If you connect the watch to a PC via USB, do you see a file in the ACTIVITIES folder from around the time you tried to save it? If not, perhaps there is something in the TEMPFIT folder (I have never been able to recover data from files in tempfit myself though). If a damaged activity file exists, it may be possible for a 'FIT file repair tool' to recover something. Maybe someone else can help with pointers to such tools.

so it just happened again with the release 12.0 version and this time a pool swim activity. as soon as i selected "save" it immediately rebooted. there's a .fit file with the correct time stamp but it's not synced and it can't be imported into connect. neither can the "repaired" file from an online tool unfortunately. both work fine with strava for some reason.

edit: 12.10, and the activity actually shows up in last sport this time but not in the history.
