Stryd power not recording on 935xt

Stryd recently had my update the firmware on my power meter. Before updating I have no issues with the power field in the 935, now if does not seem to display anything. I get a connection icon with I go to treadmill run, but no power. I know this may be a stryd issue, but the power does display on my [hone n the stryd app (and I have a post there as well). Any light that can be shed on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  • I use a Stryd power meter with the latest firmware and have not seen any issues.

If you see a power meter connection icon that means that the Stryd is connected at system level, which it should not be. Go to Settings->Sensors & Accessories and switch OFF the connection to the power part of the Stryd (the foot pod part operates on a separate ANT channel). This should solve it and you should now get a connection through the Stryd power field, but it never hurts to do a soft reset on the watch (press and hold the power button until it switches off, all data will be retained).
  • That did the trick! Thanks for the quick reply.

I recently got a Styrd and I noticed it pairs as a foot pod as well as a power meter. Are you saying to remove the power meter sensor connection? I haven't experienced any problems while running.
  • It should not hurt to also connect it as a native power meter (though for some reason it helped the OP to unconnect it). The native power meter connection is used if you have any IQ data fields showing power, except for Stryd's own data field.

However, if you have it connected as a power meter, and you use your running shoes on the bicycle, your watch will think that you are cycling with power, and you will get bogus power information in your recorded bike activities.
  • The only way to get Stryd to record all their running metrics in the FIT file is by not using the native power connection. The Stryd datafield establishes its own connection and extracts and records all the data. If your Stryd is connected at system level the datafield will not have access to the ANT channel and will not be able to get the data.

You can still upload the data directly from the foot pod using the Stryd app on your phone, but you get much better results if you use the Stryd power datafield and link your Stryd account to Garmin Connect. Has the added advantage that it is almost instant and included GPS and HR data in the Stryd powercenter.

If you want to take it even further have a look at runalyze.com for very detailed power data analysis.

If you are right - which I still doubt - this must be a limitation which is specific to the 935. On both my F3 and my F5X+ I have not had this limitation.

    To make it clear:
I have the Stryd Power field. It shows me power, and it saves all the Stryd IQ data in the .fit file from my watch.
I also have the Datarun Premium data field. This field requires the Stryd to be connected as a native ANT+ power meter (if I want it to show power, that is).
I use these two simultaneously, and they work.

Further, my setup seems to be very common among Garmin users when I look at the posts in the Stryd Facebook group. I find it strange that nobody there has chimed in and reported that it doesn't work with a 935.

I believe this is not correct. It is possible to have it connected as both footpod and power meter. I do. It’s necessary if you use a data field such as power dashboard for Stryd plus. I have this, and the Stryd one also so that all the iq data fields get recorded.

Having said that, I did get a bug last week where the Stryd data field just said “searching” and nothing of power got recorded. That was after the recent firmware update too, so I think there’s a bug there. When I used it the next time it was ok again.

  • Of course it is possible to have it connected as both foot pod and power meter. They are two separate ANT channels and are totally independent. The question is whether it can be connected as a power meter both at system level (ie through the setting menu of the watch) and using the Stryd power datafield at the same time. I was under the impression it cannot (and disconnecting it at system level seems to have solved the problem encountered by the OP) but Allan says it can. It would be great if this works, we just need Garmin to implement native power support for running.

Stryd instruction how to use with a 935 are here:

Just so I didn't mess anything up. I deleted the Stryd power meter in sensors. I use the Stryd data field in my run profile and everything worked fine last night. I've downloaded the Stryd IQ app, but have yet to use it. When I do try it out, will it connect the Stryd as a foot pod, or will it search for the Stryd as a power meter?
  • So I did a little experiment and set up a cycling profile with both native power and the Stryd power datafield and they do both work at the same time. Having done some work with ANT connections in the past I thought that once one has made the connection that channel would no longer be accessible to the other, but it seems I am wrong on that point.

Having said that I would still suggest not to switch it on at system level unless you have a specific need for it (like using the Datarun Premium datafield mentioned earlier)
