I just ordered a Stryd foot pod. I plan on using the pod for pace and distance. The running power feature is new to me and I'll see how this works for my training. Anyway, I was wondering outside of pace and distance data, which accessory will the additional data come from? Both the Stryd and the HRM-Tri have ground contact time and vertical oscillation for example. Does one override the other? I've read that Stryd has excellent customer support, but when I emailed them they replied back with how to charge the pod and the correct way to place and remove from my shoe???? So, I figured since that went nowhere, there has to be forum users who use both and can answer my question.
I have the HRM-Run and not the Tri, but I assume it will work in the same way: Except from pace and distance, data from the Stryd will be recorded as additional IQ datafields, while the rest of the running dynamics data from the Tri will get recorded as native data just as before. For some of the metrics you will get double stats in other words.
SAHO I appreciate the info. One follow up question. When you get the double stats on some of the metrics, is the data similar? If there's a difference, I can see myself wondering which is correct.
I haven’t had the Stryd for too long yet, and so far I’ve put most attention on getting pace and distance correctly. (Spoiler: you might find that you will need to calibrate the stryd, despite marketing and general opinion.)
I haven’t done any detailed comparison of the doubled running dynamics data yet, but I would assume that they don’t match 100% as we’re talking about various motion metrics where one of the sensor are placed on the foot while the other is placed on the torso.
I guess for cadence and ground contact time I would put most trust in Stryd data, while for vertical oscillation I would put most trust in the Run/Tri. But again, that’s just from the top of my head, and I don’t have any evidence to back it up. There’s probably other people around here with better insight on this.
Yes, Garmin Connect shows graphs of the usual Garmin running dynamics followed by the Stryd metrics (Power, Cadence, Ground Time, Vertical Oscillation, Form Power and Leg Spring Stiffness). Cadence is the only exact duplicate, and yes the Garmin and Stryd readings seem to me about the same. I find the Stryd graphic presentation of cadence easier to read.
If you set the Stryd to always be your source for speed, then the pace graph comes from the Stryd measure rather than GPS.
