List and documentation of possible activities

Hello
is there a list of all possible activities with their documentations ?

What is the difference if I select "walk" or "run" or "workout" (for instance) or the difference between "snowboarding" and "skiing" ?

I am really fed up with my 935 and all the undocumented features... (and I use my old 310XT for interval training as it is more accurate, prédictable, readable and useful... soon I will only use my 935 to go walking with my grand'ma)

Thanks for helping
  • I believe all the different activities do is change the activity type in the FIT and consequently in Garmin Connect. they do, however, all have different settings so you can customise the datafields differently for each activity which is nice.

  • Some activities behave differently in undocumented ways which you might not expect:
    - Walk and Trail Run don't update your running VO2Max, while Run does

And not to state the obvious, but there's other obvious activity-specific differences. e.g.
    - indoor activities have GPS disabled (and it cannot be enabled in settings)
    - Swimming has swimming-specific data fields that you can't get in a non-swimming activity

So there are definitely different classes or groups of activities that have different data fields and features available to them.

But yeah, some activities are just the same thing with different names/types so you can see the correct type in Garmin Connect: I think Elliptical is the same as Cardio, just with a different name. At the end of the day Garmin is unfortunately not going to document this stuff (and they add new activities every now and then), they just want you to pick the closest activity to what you're actually doing.
  • Same thank you WillNorthYork

I hate Garmin, not documenting, making changes without informing, not giving clear written answers !
