I recently hiked a trail called the Long Range Traverse. Part of this trail's appeal/challenge is that it is not technically marked. The park provides you with a GPX file and suggests using a gps to navigate with. No problem, I thought, I have a brand new Forerunner 935.
Well, when we headed out on the trail, nothing but the waypoints showed up on my watch! They were far enough apart, and the landscape was varied enough that a straight line from waypoint to waypoint was not helpful. Fortunately my wife had downloaded a free GPS app and the file on her phone and was able to see the provided route.
Any ideas why the route did not display on my Forerunner? I tried tweaking every setting I could find. I had also done some test hikes closer to home, with downloaded GPX files, where the route DID display, complete with warnings from the watch when I had traveled off course. I don't know what would be different. I also didn't test the file before we left, just because we were hundreds of miles from the location and I wasn't sure how look at the route on the watch when our location was not near it.
Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated so this doesn't happen again! The GPX file in question can be found here: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/nl/grosmorne/activ/experiences/backcountry/~/media/608575AD9A7E4BE091FA624218AAC721.ashx
