Alarm clock ringing 7 minutes too late

Today, the alarm clock was ringing 7 minutes after the set alarm time!!!!11 Garmin, you are not seroius, are you? This is so not good!

Issue begun probably yesterday. After a workout my Garmin frozed. Light button was still working. So I did a soft-reset (press start button for 15 seconds).
After that the wrong time was displayed, so I had to go outside to do a GPS sync.

How can I be sure, that this does not happen again? Do I have to use my old 5 Dollar alarm clock from last century as backup for my Garmin?
  • How can I be sure, that this does not happen again?

You can't. With how garmins are designed in terms of timekeeping, things like that can happen, even if rarely.

Yes. Whenever I want to be sure to wake up at a particular time, I set up a secondary alarm.

So you say, that there will be no software-update. No bugfix. No solution. And alarm clock may fail anytime again. As this is caused by a flawed technical design.

Garmin, this is not what I expect from a 500 bucks watch.

    I don't know that! I'm not Garmin.

And alarm clock may fail anytime again.

Well, yes. Technically, any type of device can fail. This includes normal electronic watches, and mechanical clocks, too. I had a casio watch which sometimes powered down unexpectedly, only to wake up (with time reset to some random value) many hours later. It's a matter of reliability. The more complex, the more likely it is to fail.

Whether the design is flawed or not, I will not speculate. It is as it is, with all the consequences.

See, the thing is that this is not a watch! It's a fancy and featureful computer in a form of a watch. Yes, it can show current time of day, and by doing this it mimicks a real watch and tricks you into thinking it is one. But it's not. Timekeeping and time-related functions (like alarms) in a garmin are done very differently than in a simple watch. This is a fundamental difference and has some heavy implications on overall reliability.

What a blah, Garmin. I don't like this whataboutism.

Battery was loaded. Watch was showing correct time. Alarm was set. Don't tell me, that I can't expect, that the alarm clock is ringing at the correct time.

Well, that's how IT/Software/Technology works. You won't EVER (as of now), get a device which is 100% safe and without bugs. Simple as that.

Maybe when we get to a point in time where machines develop hardware and software, you might get a device which is functioning 100%.

    You misunderstood me completely.

Again, I'm NOT Garmin. I am not a Garmin employee nor representative, and have absolutely no association to that company, except being a user of one of their products, just like you. This is one thing. Another thing is that you may not like my explanation, but it doesn't mean it is not true. ANY device can fail. But to be clear this time, I agree that Garmin watches are less reliable than normal watches when timekeeping is considered.

You can expect whatever you like. But sadly this has little impact on reality. Do you think that I am totally satisfied with the timekeeping abilities (or other basic watch functions like alarm or stopwatch) of my Garmin FR735XT? No, I'm not. Were it more important for me, I would have thrown the Garmin away and used something else. I'm not trying to advocate using garmin for timekeeping.
  • I've not seen this issue, but don't use my alarm on the watch regularly. What firmware version are you on?

I expect, that everything that is described in the handbook works fine. Don't you? Ever heard of consumer rights?

I paid full price for my Garmin. This is why I expect, that a crucial app as alarm bell works faultless. Garmin, if you think, a faulty alarm clock must be accepted by your customer, I want my money back. I 'm fed up with your whataboutism.

Yes, although realistically looking, I'd end up without any device if I rejected those that do not meet the specs and/or fail from time to time. So even though I have my share of issues with my garmin, I made a conscious decision to keep it, seeing that features that are essential to me work relatively well.

    Yes.

This is understandable. Do not make a mistake of thinking that I do not agree with you.

If you want Garmin's reaction, then this is not the best place to make requests. Try contacting Garmin support, but I doubt it will get you anywhere as you will be probably offered a replacement which will be as reliable as your original watch. And if you want your money back - which I fully understand and support - then I think you need to contact the seller, but this might depend on where you bought it.
  • It has happened to me too, but the garmin hour was wrong about 7 minutes late. It was connected to phone and the phone clock was right I lost my bus and came late work. Now I don't check time on Garmin but on the phone....
