Downgrade to earlier stable FW

Is there a way to downgrade to an earlier FW?
I need the watch fully functional as I have a race coming up on saturday, and anything since 9.60 is unusable - OWS inaccurate, no cadence and elevation data is wrong.
I'm currently on 9.70 (just downgraded from 9.72) but I'd like to go back to either 9.10 stable or 9.02 beta.

I've tried a couple of things:
- placed the .gcd file to \GARMIN and renamed to GUPDATE.GCD
- edited the GarminDevice.xml in \GARMIN to show a previous version (e.g. 8.99 or 9.02) in <SoftwareVersion></...> and <UpdateFile></...>
- used the Garmin WebUpdater to directly push the 9.10 .gcd to the watch

None of which worked, the install prompt just wouldn't appear when I disconnect the watch.
Tried both from 9.70 and 9.72.

Are we now stuck with an seriously buggy FW in a $500 watch while there's a perfectly good previous FW? C'mon, Garmin...

I've tried it already, but it doesn't work. Now I've tried with the 8.00 stable release, still nothing.

Read through some of the other posts in there too. Others have reported issues with downgrading but seem to have overcome them.

Also, check in 'Software Update' on the watch to see if there is something to activate there. Possible that the prompt hasn't appeared but the update is there.

I've read the last 3 pages but noone seemed to have any issues with the downgrade.
There is nothing to activate under Software Update, only auto update which at this point should be disabled.

did you use the 800 gcd file linked in the #98 post as suggested by philipshambrook?

No, I did not, becase it needed a OneDrive account, so I used the files linked above.
Now I downloaded the file you guys mentioned, and this worked!! THANK YOU both!

Is it possible to update to 9.10 afterwards?
And what about GPS module. So it's still the new 2.20 version and works with system software 8.00?

Yes, I already upgraded to 9.10, and it still has GPS 2.20 on it - though I haven't had the opportunity yet to test whether it's working correctly, will report back when I do.

Zako, I would go for the GPS 4.40
I suspect Garmin Express should provide you with GPS 4.40 while on a Firmware version below 9.60, when garmindevice.xml is not blocked or adapted.
In your present garmindevice.xml there should be an entry with "006-B1621-00" (GPS without galileo) instead of "006-B2957-00" (GPS with galileo)

Is there any downside to using 2.20 w/ 9.10? I read somewhere that it should be compatible.
If possible I'd avoid letting Garmin Express anywhere near my watch till a stable release comes out fixing all the issues of 9.60.

My two cents...FW910 was stable in combo with all other software on the watch.
Being that only downgrading the watch firmware you are creating an unknown untested situation.
FW9.10, GPS4.40,
and Zako, please edit your double post ;)

You're right, I'll downgrade GPS as well. That should be pretty straightforward, just have Garmin Express install it on the watch, right? Or do I have to change the UpdateFile param in the xml as well?
