Forerunner 935 will not connect or charge after upgrade to v9.6

Connected my Forerunner 935 to my Mac this morning, was prompted to upgrade Garmin Express version, and did so.

Device started charging, and sync'ed with Garmin Express in the normal manner

Garmin Express told me I had number of updates, the "biggest" being upgrade to v9.6. Accepted all upsets and it set off downloading & transferring those to the device. Device prompted me to install v9.6, which I did. device installed and reset in the normal manner.

After that process the Forerunner will no longer connect via it's physical port. Even when connected by the cable, it will not charge when plugged into an AC charger, and it will not charge via my laptop when connected to the USB port, and Garmin Express no longer sees it at all. It is as if there is no cable connected, (when there actually is). I have 2 cables, so have tried the alternative one - same problem! Device will still sync via Garmin Connect Mobile (bluetooth connection), bit only for as long as it holds a charge

So, I am now stuck with a Forerunner 935 that I cannot charge, and cannot update via my laptop- THANKS GARMIN, you've played a blinder - back to your old poor quality updates I see!
  • Press and hold light for 15 secs and then turn on again. See if that fixes it

  • Knew I should have had a sweepstake going on how long it would take before someone blamed 9.6 for the world falling apart. FWIW, mine updated fine from a Mac. Took a few minutes before restarting - appeared to hang on the BTOD but came through eventually. Maybe just need a little patience.

Another update through GE on Mac here. Went as flawless as the 3 updates I'd done with the 935 before. It updated to 9.60, afterwards to GPS 2.20. It showed GPS 0.00. Then came the obligatory post-update reboot, and the watch then showed 2.20.
Everything in working order here as well.

Whilst I'm delighted for you all, sadly my FR 935 is still stuck in the same state!

Tried that, several times - doesn't resolve the problem at all I'm afraid
  • I have had 2 FR935's that developed problems with USB after having been connected to a computer, although not as suddenly as yours. And I sure hope it is not a hardware defect in your case, but it can't hurt to rule that out, so contacting Garmin support by phone may be in order here.
