Latest hill sprint workout

I went for a short run yesterday that ended with 4 x 8 second hill sprints. https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2796812819

Two things "inconsistent" with past workouts of the same variety.
1) Anaerobic TE only came back at 0.4
2) HR increase seems to lag the actual sprint by a second or two.

For comparison, a previous hill sprint workout. Same HRM-Tri strap, same fw version of 935. One less rep but Anaerobic TE of 1.1 https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2761979952

Does the misalignment of HR and pace explain my low Anaerobic TE value? Ideas on how to improve that for future workouts?

This is normal. Increase in effort results in HR increase after a delay. This is how human's cardiorespiratory system works.

    Unlikely.
  • I'd guess 8 secs hill sprints isn't enough to bump a higher Anaerobic value from the First Beat Algorithms... your previous run was 37 mins total, got a link to the problematic one to compare?

The first two activities I linked are the closest comparison, a warm up run followed by sprints in the same activity. It's seeming likely that 8 seconds just isn't long enough. Back in April I did 4x10" with a TE of 2.5, that was a stand alone activity though. Warm up was recorded separately.

Doing some more reading, I also see that the firstbeat algorithm for Anaerobic TE does take into account any previous fatigue. So maybe the fact that I'm recording them as one single activity is preventing the number from being higher?
