Showing workout step pace range on Forerunner 935

On the Forerunner 735XT (OS version 9.30, Connect IQ 2.4.5) the pace range for each workout step is shown in towards the bottom of the screen.

However this doesn't seem to happen on the 935 (we have a user trying to run the same workout on a 935 and they do not see the pace range)

Does anyone know how to get the pace range to be shown during a workout step?

Thanks ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1364548.jpg
  • Do a workout on the 935, it's there!

This is the actual interval screenshot, the red/green/red bar at the top shows pace and its also shown under that when actually moving. My shot taken at my desk!

the warmup one also shows pace.

  • Wonderful - could I ask what watch OS version you are running? I can get the user who reported the issue to check their end. (the joy of not having a 935 to hand to test directly :)

    Thanks again!
  • On my Fenix 5 the pace range is only shown for 5 seconds at the start of the step - it is impossible to get it back. After 5 second it just shows your lap average. This is very annoying. As a TrainAsONE user I am tempted to write to Garmin asking for a tweak of >>If you leave the page and go back to it the range is displayed again.

kitenski does it only display for a few seconds on the 935?
  • abs0d That feature has been there since the watch was released on day one. Make sure your user has created a workout in Garmin Connect and sent it to the watch. Then select run, long press UP, choose Training, My Workouts and pick the workout you want. TrippyZ If you have set a pace target you'll see it for the whole interval.

Screenshot below of the workout in GC:
  • issues with media uploading (again!!)
  • It does seem strange that you can get a display on a 735XT which you can't on a shiny Fenix 5 (insert standard gag here about being willing to trade :)

I've generated a two test FIT files for a repetition workout - one as generated by TrainAsONE now, with the step name and notes set to the step type ("Easy" etc) and the other with the notes set to step type plus the workout pace (Since the pace range is generated as a piece of text it picks up from the TrainAsONE account preference so will be in /km rather than /mi).

So the "workout-1621-repetition.fit" is right for a 735XT, as it includes the pace on the display by default. The question would be - is "workout-1621-repetition-test-pace.fit" a better fit for the Fenix 5 (and potentially 935 if the pace range goes away after a few seconds)

  • Sorry kitenski - my above comment was started before your last post

We're using workouts generated by https://www.trainasone.com - every workout is individually generated with paces, durations etc based on a user's adaptive running plan. They're either loaded onto the watch by a TrainAsONE Garmin app, or copied across via a USB cable from a computer, but they are the same format as generated by connect.garmin.com

We do seem to have cases where the workout step pace is not being displayed
    • at least one case of a 735XT which did not display, but a watch OS update added the display
    • one 935 which does not seem to show it at all once the workout starts
    • and it looks like a fenix 5 which only shows it for a short time during the workout.

I'll be delighted if we can resolve this with watch OS updates or other methods which do not involve generating per device workout files :)

    Thanks
  • There is no issue with workouts created on Garmin Connect mobile correctly displaying pace on the 935, as my screenshot shows.

I'd suggest the issue is with your software and the file it creates I'm afraid.

I'd suggest your 935 user re-creates a sample workout on Garmin Connect, sends that to the watch and confirms that it works.

Then you need to "simply" figure out the difference!!
  • We have spent a bit of time working through the FIT workout format.

Would you be willing to try the workout-1621-repetition.fit from above onto your 935 to test to confirm it shows the pace at the start of a step and continues to show it for a little while during the step? Given we know that at least on the 735XT a firmware update helped the display I'm wondering if we could have a similar issue on the 935

    Thanks
