?Need a hard reset

Hi all,

Having problems with my Garmin 935 for a week and think it may warrant a hard reset but thought I'd ask for advice

Ran a marathon 1 week ago today and the problems have occured since then --> Perhaps due to a corrupted activity?

- First problem noted that my marathon activity wouldn't sync to Garmin Connect (usually no problem).

- Then a couple of days later when syncing my custom watch faces reverted back to the standard Garmin clock face --> 'IQ' symbol appearing when trying to change it back

- No activities save now when I finish running 'just becomes stuck on 'saving'' and I have to turn the watch off and on, losing data, also GPS no longer working on runs..

---

Just seeking advice on how to remedy the problem, tried connecting to Garmin Express and updating (Fairly certain I'm on the newer 8.0.0 software) (which failed). I've read forums which suggest my marathon activity is the problem and is likely corrupted but not sure how to isolate it to delete it, I have a mac computer and most methods of isolating the file require a windows computer..

Anyways if anyone has any advice, even on how to hard reset the watch if required. It would be much appreciated (One 935 owner to another :D )

Thanks!

David
  • Have you tried manually uploading to Garmin Connect? Connect to your Mac. Browse your way to the ACTIVITY folder. In there you'll find your recorded activities. If you sort them by date added you should quickly be able identify the marathon file. Go into Garmin Connect on the interweb and try to manually upload the file. If it goes up, and you need none of the other files in there, delete them. Make sure you empty them from the trash afterwards.

If that doesn't work try this online fitful repair tool

For good measure do a hard reset anyway - no data is lost. Press and hold the top left button until the device powers off - about 15s. Wait a few seconds then restart.

What works on Windows, works on the Mac too.

    Hi Philip,

I have tried to do what you are saying but the activity 'folder' is a 0kb file which I can't open with any programme - certainly no activities to be found on windows or mac (tried both)

    ---

In other news - I have now tried deleting all data on my watch, and deleting garmin connect and reinstalling.

Now I cannot get the watch to pair with Garmin connect on my phone OR my computer.

I'm concerned there is no fix to this and its a hardware issue.

    Please, advice is needed :)

    Thanks

  • call support. Looks like you've got a bigger problem than normal. Those files are all supposed to be folders

Garmin Europe office hours 08:30 to 17:30, Monday to Friday. My luck - Anyone else have any ideas in the meantime it would be appreciated :)

    ..

On another note, tried doing a '10 second' activity and the watch is just spinning in circles 'saving again..

and even though im not connected via garmin connect I am still getting phone notifications through the watch

    This is all very strange
  • One thing you could try is to connect it to your computer and open that same folder again, then delete all the folders on the drive. Disconnect the watch from the computer and turn the watch off. Wait a minute or so and power it back on. The watch should then try and re-generate all of the folders.

That sounds rather.. irreversible, will try copying files onto pc as a backup and try this

Seems to have done the trick! Syncing with my phone now, synced with computer successfully, able to save run activities, files showings as you described and now fiddling with settings to try and bring the watch back to my normality

    Thanks!

  • So the reason this worked is that the watch will create the folders if they don't exist. Somehow the folders that were on your watch got corrupted and were reporting as a file instead of a folder. When you deleted the corrupt data, the watch re-generated the empty folders from the default template. A lot of people back up their folders every once in a while and then if they have issues they can just delete all the folders and then copy the old files back over to retain their settings.
