Is there a way to turn on notifications for some apps but turn them off for others?

I have a couple of questions:

1. Is there any way to turn on notifications for text messages, but turn them off for messaging apps like Google Hangouts?

2. Is there any way to turn off vibration for notifications? I'd like to have access to them on the watch, but sometimes constant buzzing is bothersome.

Thank you!

EDIT: I use an Android phone.
  • 1. Not on iOS afaik. Not sure about Android
    2. Turn on Do Not Disturb Mode and you’ll get silent notifications
  • 1. On Android it's very easy and in the settings of Connect Mobile, for iOS it's a little trickier. You have to go into the notification settings for the apps you don't want sent to your watch and deselect the Show In History option (I think that's the correct one).
    2. Go into Settings->System->Sounds->Vibration and you can turn it off there.

As an alternative to doing this for all alerts, you go to Settings> Phone> Smart Notifications> During/Not During Activity and set Tone, Vibration or both.

But that won’t give you silent notifications, because you can’t choose “None”. Afaik, Do Not Disturb Mode is the only way to accomplish that without changing the system wide tones/vibes setting. The nice thing is it’s easy to toggle (from the Controls menu)

(I’m assuming that if you don’t want buzzing from vibes, you also don’t want alert tones)

Thank you for the replies! I should have mentioned that I do use an Android phone.

Here are all the conditions I want to accomplish:

    1. I want my phone to vibrate normally for notifications
    2. I would like some notifications sent to my watch to vibrate (e.g., new e-mail in Gmail) while others I would like to not vibrate (e.g., Hangouts)
    3. If #2 is not possible, I'd like all notifications to be silent on my watch

You can set Gmail to vibrate and turn Hangouts off, but you can't set one to vibrate and the other to just appear on the watch if you want both apps to notify you. It's the same setting for all notifications.

What do you mean by "You can set Gmail to vibrate and turn Hangouts off"? Where do I go to do this? I want my phone to notify for both, I just don't want my watch to buzz when I get a Hangouts notification on my phone.
  • Borys, the per-app settings for determining which notifications are sent to the Garmin wearable device are found in the Garmin Connect Mobile app for Android:
(‘hamburger’ menu) › Settings › Smart Notifications

Ahh, thank you so much! I was looking in Device -> Device Settings -> Phone Notifications.
