Connectivity with Polar OH1 stops suddenly during workouts

Hi! Bought a FR 935 recently and I've been happy with the watch except for one thing, the connection with my Polar OH1 external HR monitor stops randomly in the middle of my runs. Sometimes after 8min, others after 26min, or 16min...there's no pattern. It seems like the watch ends the connection after sometime. Never had this problem with my Suunto spartan sport HR that I sold recently. The OH1 isn't paired with any other device and I've reset it twice trying to solve the issue. I also pair and unpair the OH1 with the watch several times but with no luck.
Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks
  • I had the exact same thing happen with my Scosche Rhythm + on my old Fenix 3HR--looked like everything was fine...then a big ol' block of missing HR data and then have it reconnect (I use the Graphical HR data screen for most of my activities).

There could be a number of reasons: Since the OH1 is BTS it could just be a range thing (if you're wearing the watch on one arm and the OH1 on the other). If you are using the OH1 in a place where you have a tattoo that could be a reason for the loss of actual HR data (but not a disconnect).I know with my 935 my actual body can be an issue as I get drop-outs with my HRM-Tri if I am doing something where my arms (and by extension the watch) are behind my body for a prolonged period of time (like 5-10 seconds). While the 935 was much, much better for external sensor support over the maligned Fenix 5 line, it still has its shortcomings.

Move the OH1 around a bit, maybe to the same arm as the watch if you aren't already doing that.
  • Thanks for your help! Unfortunately I don't have tattoos and use the OH1 in the same arm as the FR 935 (maybe around 20 cm apart). I think the problem is with the RD Pod. I need to do some more experiences but apparently if I only use the Garmin footpod and the OH1 simultaneously everything works as it should. But if I add the RD Pod the connection with the OH1 is screwed somewhere during the workout.
  • Well, today's run without the RD Pod (only Garmin footpod and Polar OH1) and everithing worked as it sould. The conclusion is:

    1. There's to much information for the watch to process (RD Pod+Garmin Footpod+Polar OH1) and the watch drop some of them.
    2. There's a "conflict" between the RD Pod and the Polar OH1.
    3. None of the previous and I don't have a clue of what it is.

Hm I'm also having problems with disconnected OH1 and losing HR. I've even had a problem using a Polar V800! It couldn't find the OH1 sensor! With Garmin watches I've used Fenix 5S and 935 and with Fenix it works sometimes and sometimes I get drops in the HR readings, sometimes one minute or so and sometimes 10 mins or more. With 935 (which I partly bought because I thought it would be better at BTS than Fenix for some reason) I've had drops in HR signal and am not sure what is the cause. I've also see "HR detected" during a run when I never saw problems, so perhaps the OH1 was disconnected and reconnected then... Reading the above posts it seems not even Rhythm+ with ANT is safe to use to get 100% signal :( I had such high hopes for OH1 because when I do get signal, the HR seems very accurate. Wonder what happens in the winter when it's -20C and I have several layers of clothing on top of it...
  • I have now the same issue with a Garmin 645 and a combination of Polar OH1+ (connected via ANT) and RD-POD. When I use both sensors the HR stops after som  time (between 12 and 20 minutes. I do not think the connectivity is lost (as the HR value reamins constant during the rest of the workout, see picture), but using both sensors together does not work.

  • I experience exactly the same behavior as and describe with my forerunner 935. I also don't think that it has something to do with connection losses as Former Member writes. I did quite a view tests and it's definitely a conflict between the RD Pod and the Polar OH1. As soon as I add the RD into the equation the HR stops updating/freezes after x minutes to y hours. ASAP I remove the RD Pod everything works fine.
