Milestone Pod - Ouput on Garmin

Hi all,

Before I take the plunge of buying a non Garmin footpod can someone confirm the output to Garmin Connect you get with the MP?

and what can be displayed on the watch while you are running?

Is it simply the same data at the HRM band..

Thanks in advance for the info!
  • You would see Pace and Cadence. I can't tell why you mention the HRM band -- you mean the running dynamics from the HRM Run or HRM Tri? No dynamics data gets to the Garmin via Milestone Pod because the pod is just a BLE Footpod to the Garmin.

Also note that currently Garmin watches do not properly use some of the footpod options for BLE based pods -- example: setting the usage for "Pace" or "Distance" to "Always" and then recording with GPS on.

Personally I think the Milestone Pod data is quite poor compared to the Garmin Pod and I likely wouldn't buy another, even though I like the price. I haven't tried any of the Stryd pods, but have seen very positive comments. I am hopeful the Stryd Live pod will come down in price in the future -- an accurate pod with BLE and ANT+ would be nice.
  • Thanks for the info and reply.

I like stats / data so I wanted to see if it get the same info I get already for my HRM.

Would I not get a power output from the MP to my Garmin?

If not I'll just go for a Garmin FP..
  • The Milestone Pod doesn't do power according to this page:

  • It seems you may be confusing Garmin's Foot Pod with their Running Dynamics Pod. You should review the differences between the Garmin Footpod and the Running Dynamics Pod to determine which you really want.

No power from Milestone, nor from Garmin's Foot Pod.

Garmin's Running Dynamics pod with the right connect IQ app will give you a power estimate.

The primary purpose of the Garmin Footpod is Pace, Distance and Cadence. Many of the newer watches can do these items in indoor mode without any accessories, but the Garmin Footpod improves Pace/Distance dramatically (I would argue Cadence is fine from the watch alone).

The running dynamics pod is made to give you the special measurements that the HRM RUN and HRM TRI do -- Cadence, Vertical Oscillation, Ground Contact Time, Power Estimate... but NOT Pace or Distance.

The Milestone Pod when paired with a Garmin watch is basically the same as a Garmin Footpod (Pace/Distance/Cadence), but I argue less accurate. It's true their pod offers other metrics via BLE sync to your phone, but many debate how useful or accurate these metrics are anyway.

A full Stryd sensor (~$200) does essentially everything, but as you can tell from the price, you pay for it.
