Reduce vibration intensity?

This is probably a stupid question but.. is there any way to reduce the vibration intensity for notifications? Or, like, adjust/setup.
I like strong vibration when i'm biking or running, but not when i'm working and everyone turns back to me because the watch makes so much noise :)

I can't find any way to set the vibration strength and I can't imagine I'm the only one who would like to actually reduce it in certain situations. I also wonder if its something you can make firmware features request for, or something like that
  • No, you can’t change. You could however turn on Do Not Disturb at work which would stop notifications. You can do this quickly through the Controls Menu by press and holding the light button.

The VA3 supports different intensity settings so it may come to future Forerunners.

Well, many users of electronic appliances and IT services imagine there ought to be a higher degree of customisation possible, because it would make them happier and enjoy the user experience more, but without actually establishing the magnitude of the benefit to others stakeholders, including in particular the one being asked to make the investment of time and effort. :-)

    Sure. https://www8.garmin.com/contactUs/ideas/

Never say never, of course, but I think they probably did it with the VA3 because it has no speaker so vibration is its only form of notification and they wanted to allow some customization.

In my opinion is very very necesary can to change the intensity of vibrator and two or three sounds of alarms...for example for wake up...
  • @Yone: In my opinion, the suggested feature or lack thereof would have either no or negligible impact on the Forerunner device model's appeal and actual sales figures, and is not even enough of a deal-breaker for prospective customers in Garmin's target user base (for that model and/or grade of device) to either choose something like a VA3 instead or reject Garmin altogether.
  • From the ConnectIQ API documentation:

Forerunner devices do not support vibration patterns. Vibration may still be used, but the vibration will always run at the same duty cycle.

The 'duty cycle' is a way to control the intensity.
  • Thanks for the answer, I'm also submitting this to the idea form just in case.
As a developer myself, if the Garmin software was open source I'd gladly spend a few hours learning it and adding the option.
The reason why people use vibration is because it does not disturb people around them, yet still get notified. Strong vibration kind of defeat that purpose (and so do the do not disturb mode of the phone, since you would get zero notification).

It's pretty decent as it is but it could be a lot better easily. This most likely won't affect sales directly, though, if Garmin wants to compete in the more "smart watch" segment (vs the sport one) this is the kind of feature that would be required. I use the FR935 as both a sport and smart watch, and while it doesn't do a lot of what, say, apple watch does, I still think it's vastly superior due to battery life, accuracy and always-on-screen - these being basic requirements in my mind. I'm fairly sure most people with apple watches don't realize this, and every time they see my watch they do not even believe that I charge it every 2 week. As in, they actually think I'm lying, lol.

    Anyhow, let's hope :)
  • Why is it a required feature
if Garmin wants to compete in the more "smart watch" segment (vs the sport one)
The Apple watch does not have any variation, (or ability to change it) in the vibration either.

It doesn't mean Garmin should not. Samsung smartwatches let you adjust intensity, FYI.

If the vibration would'nt make such a weired loud noise it would not be necessary to customize the vibration pattern. But now at the office or at night next to my partner I have to turn on DND-mode which makes smart notifications pretty useless. Another great garmin feature becoming useless due to the lack of customizability...
