Training Status question

I've had my 935 for two months now. When I first got it the watch took about a week to requester a training status showing me my "fitness" and "load" level. For the past week the weather has been bad and instead of running, I did weight training, HIIT and used my indoor bike trainer. Now my watch is showing "no status" on my training status widget. The "load" field is still there, but under "fitness" it's blank and says "run outdoors with heart rate twice to see your status". So, my question is, does the 935 only use the training status figures for running only, or did my watch do something it shouldn't have done?

I guess it's a good idea to read the manual before posting in the forum. :o I found my answer.
  • So, my question is, does the 935 only use the training status figures for running only
    Yes

The "load" field is still there, but under "fitness" it's blank and says "run outdoors with heart rate twice to see your status."
Run at least once in a week otherwise you lose the training status. This doesn't effect load or Training effect. It's too cold for me to run where I live so I haven't had a Status in months.

I haven't missed it all that much.

  • I don't think that's true (at least on my Fenix 5 but it's the same software). I haven't run since 4 Feb and have been strictly cycling on my trainer. My Training Status shows "Peaking" with increasing fitness and decreasing load.
  • If you cycle with a power meter, and hence get a VO2 max result, that can give you a training status too.

No it can use cycling as well. The manual says

Run outdoors with heart rate at least two times per week, or ride with heart rate and power at least two times per week.

  • My training status has been changing after gym workouts and indoor cycling (without power meter). Something changed recently and the status has been all over the place without changing VO2Max.
  • in order to get a training status you must run or bike and get Vo2 max. You can do this by running outside with gps and HR or biking inside/outside with power meter. Once you get a training status, it will change your recovery, load, etc. for all workouts, even indoor, for a while...

However, if you don't get a vo2max reading for a while, your status will go back to 'no status'. The feature is pretty worthless for those that workout indoors, especially for treadmill or indoor track running. Just use trainingpeaks or golden cheetah to get your real training status. They work with all workouts and have better science behind them. Why garmin uses this firstbeat nonsense is beyond me when they should be using CTL, TSB, etc. that all of the professionals use
