Garmin Running Power - Support In SportsTracks 3.1 (Desktop)

It looks to me like sporttracks desktop has effectively stopped development on the product. MOBI does receive updates.
It is possible to import Garmin Running Power from FIT files and get power. but it is not simple.

1. it requires OMB's Garmin FIT importer. this will then import the GRP CIQ fields. but then you can't see the data
2. so you then use the Custom Data Tracks plugin to copy from the GRP power field to the sporttracks default power field. THEN you can see it in the standard power reports.

It's the same for RunScribe and STRYD
Its REALLY annoying to have to do this each time (so I don't). I think you can use macros in ST3.1 to automate tht but i have never quite got around to that.

The solution lies ONLY in OMB or Aaron @ST making the appropriate code changes
OR
If Garmin somehow enables the standard power field to optionally be populated. But I think there will cause us all other data problems if you think through the workflow for cycling.

If any of you, like me, want this change making, perhaps make a comment in one of the following two threads:

  • I use STRYD and have ST mobi connected to Garmin Connect and to the desktop version of ST.

When a run syncs from mobi to desktop, the Power track is there.

I do have to use the OMB FIT importer to get the additional data like GCT, VO, etc. , but not the standard power track

  • yes there are a few 3rd party tools/methods that also solve the problem as you describe eg an export from STRYD powercenter also works.

I should have been more specific: meaning directly importing into ST3 from a FIT file
