Synching various devices so that firstbeat works on 935

Hi, I realie this is a known issue but if you would bear with me I’d like advice on workarounds.

1. I have a 935 that I wear 24/7
2. When I run I use 935/HRM Tri
3. When I swim I use 935/Hrm Tri
4. When I bike outdoor I use Edge 1030, Vector 3 pedals
5. When I bike Indoor I use Tacx NEO and an Apple TV Zwift setup (and will use Wahoo Bluetooth HRM when it arrives)

All my devices upload to Strava and TP and Connect.

My problem is that since when I bike outside the edge uploads to the 3 apps and when I bike Indoors the Zwift does the same my watch doesn’t have bike data so I am perpetually undertraining and it also doesn’t track any of my bike rides. I know I can go to TP and look but I like to be able to look at my watch and see what I have been up to.

Is there a way to get connect to feed info to the watch? I tried wearing an HRM tri when I ride indoor and deleting the ride before it dupes to TP but that doesn’t work.

CI’m sure lots of people have this issue what’s thw workaround? I love how connect has everything from everywhere but it doesn’t have first beat (that would be fine because I could just check it on the phone)

example: Today I have a yoga session, a run, a hike (all on the 935) and a zwift ride (not on the 935) on connect, strava and TP - and my watch firstbeat is not correct.

Any ideas appreciated
  • Sorry I don't have a solution, but this is the reason I feel like upgrading my Fenix 3 to something newer is pointless. I cycle using an edge 520 and ride indoors using trainerroad. As you say nothing ever gets synced back to the watch making all the recovery advisor stuff pretty useless.

polar have a better solution in that training load is available on the website, and gets synced back to the watch. So bike rides using a bike computer end up on your watch. I believe the reason Garmin don't do this is due to licensing their software from first beat.
  • Yes - it’s weird i have licensed firstbeat on the edge and on the watch but since i have 2 licenses I’m not allowed to have one that works
  • The question has been asked many times in other threads some which Garmin has replied back, they say it's being worked on I have an email that said they would like to see it first quarter this year but I am not holding my breath :)
  • i have almost the same setup and my solution was to record the zwift activity on the 935 as well (just power, cadence and hr); in this way you'll have the performance condition updated on the 935 according to your zwift workout; after the 935 file gets uploaded, i just manually delete, in order not to duplicate the no. of activities ;-). another solution would be to use the fit file repair tool and merge the 935 & zwift activities into one activity so you can keep the 935 metrics (i would find the power in zone, the training effects and l/r balance useful) and the zwift distance and map, but as this would be just some extra info i wouldn't really rely on (and an extra cost) i didn't bought the fit file tool. also, as a primary analysis and tracking tool i use the desktop version of sporttracks with several analysis plugins. hope it helps ;-)
  • Garmin supposedly have "better integration of Fenix (and presumably 935) and Edge" coming in Q1 2018, but there are no details of what this would mean, or exact timing.

As a workaround, most people just wear their watch during a ride, even if the Edge is the display they refer to while riding. ANT+ sensors can connect to more than 1 head unit (BLE can't do that), so it should get all the same data. Some people just delete the duplicate data, others have the Edge and watch data going to different Garmin accounts, with the watch account being the master - no deleting or extra work involved, but the data is still available as a backup if necessary.
  • Thanks - i guess I will wait, i don’t want to have to delete files etc.
