Watch time running slow

Hi all,

since the last update I have noticed on two occasions that the watch time was ~20 minutes behind real time. The watch is always connected via Bluetooth and this morning I went for a run so had the GPS synced. I switched the watch off and on again and it set the time to the right time once it bluetooth connected.

Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas? I am not running any watchfaces, just the normal digital time.

Ralph
  • Have you got the time set to Auto? - Settings, Systems, Time, Set Time
  • Had the same thing happen to mine today as well. It was about 1 hour slow, started a run a run to sync with the GPS and time was corrected now if it will only speed up so I can leave work early :)
  • I have seen this a couple times but not lately. It is my understanding that the time does not come from your phone so having a bluetooth connection does not matter. It's the GPS lock that sets your time.
  • The watch is set to Auto time.

It must be able to sync via Bluetooth time as when I restarted it, I was inside nowhere near a window amd would have no GPS signal. It updated the time a second after it popped up the "connected" message on the watch so I believe it is getting updated from watch.
  • The watch does sync the time from the phone. I often travel internationally, and the watch updates the time once my phone has come off airplane mode and updated the time automatically.

I have this exact same problem. Most recently just 2 days after I power cycled the watch. I have not even executed any activities. Default watch face (no 3rd party). The time had not stopped, seconds were still counting away, but it was about 15 minutes behind. Time sync is set to auto. I'm not travelling. Resync with GPS brought it back to normal, but this is certainly a real problem.

Edit: I'm on 7.6, and I believe this issue started with that firmware. I'm pretty sure I've observed this 3 times. The last two instances were in the last 2 weeks with 7.6, the other was around the release time, but I'm not positive.
Also, it's been 12 hours since I resync'd the GPS time, still no power cycle, and the time is still current. Debatable if we're losing seconds slowly, or if there's an event in which the time is paused for ~15-20 minutes.
  • I can confirm its not a slow loss. Its an event. There is no error log I can find.

Had situation earlier this week where I lost time, I resynced by turning off Bluetooth and reconnecting. Opened garmin connect and it set the right time. Less than 30 minutes later I had lost another 20 odd minutes.

I agree with it being a recent event possibly the 7.6 update I do not recall having had issues before.

It just happened to me again. 16 minutes behind. No events have been running, bluetooth was not connected (it was on, but my phone was off). No alarms. I can't associate any event to this, but I agree it doesn't look like it's just "slow". Also, I power cycled the watch, and it did NOT resolve. Did I lose my mind? Second power cycle, still didn't resolve. Turned my phones bluetooth on, and it immediately connected and resolved.
I have not tried a hard reset yet. I was hoping not to do that.
I have been emailing Garmin support - but like usual it's a terrible experience and a complete waste of effort. I haven't had time to call support yet, that's always been a much better experience.
  • Hard reset is just holding the power button for 15secs. You won’t lose any data.
