  • I'm English, resident in New Zealand, but working in Australia at the moment. As such, any humour I might have (according to my few friends that's doubtful) gets lost in translation. Besides, there will be a beta release tomorrow. Well maybe the day after tomorrow. But it is coming.
  • :D - kidding aside, i can tell from past experience that installing betas on the 920 was sort of frustrating...as i only used the 3 main sports without any other bells and whistles; i wasn't even happy when they released swim workouts or the hrm cache band; i have one, but nowdays rarely use it. so basically i'm very happy with the 935 as it is, it's working great and just to see in the change log something like "improved detection of", well that wouldn't be bringing spring earlier...
  • In full agreement with you. The 935 does everything I need of it. I'm not interested in a step or floor counter as I do plenty of exercise without the need to worry about those. I do understand that some people 'need' step and floor counts, calories and other 'stuff'. I also wonder if their expectations are little out of whack with reality. As the device matures, there will be fewer updates and longer periods between them. It is very likely that the expectations of some will be dashed.

To be clear, i'm not taking offense to this sentiment, but i'm one of those people that want those things ("need" might not be the right term). I don't think the lack of beta's mean abandonment of the product as time goes on-- I take it that there is little left to fix if anything. What I would take as a problem is when there is a glaringly broken thing (for argument's sake) and it gets no fix; then I would have a problem, especially if it came from a beta, never got addressed in the live and is left broken forever.

  • I put steps, calories and floor counts almost in the same category as optical heart rate. It's data, but not good data as we know it. I'd like those things to work, more for curiosity than anything else (WHR working when active would be really nice) but I'd be surprised if they ever will work properly. Still. it's sometimes useful to see a number move in the direction I'd like it to move, however inaccurate that number might be. The core functions work, that is the bits that I need to use for my training purposes. The other stuff is nice to have. At least for me anyway. I understand if steps and floor counts are the highest priority for some then others will be a bit peeved.

Steps yes...stairs, not with any Garmin watch. At least with Garmin, you can collect your stride info and the watch gets the count close (within a 100 steps). I just played around with a Polar M430, and I had nearly 20k steps each day I wore it, and there is no way to set your stride. Stairs though are superfluous and just have never been accurate on any Garmin watch I've ever owned. But, to be fair, the current live build for the 935 has been the most stable I might have ever come across in this regard.

Personally, I don't consider either of these "the highest priority" but want them all the same. Calories, though how they compile the estimate (or how any company does) are considered woefully inaccurate tend to follow a consistent trend based on my activity level day-to-day--and it's really consistent. Lazy days (or recovery days) have me well below my normal active days (and active cals reported fit the bill for work put out). Days of hard work (workout) and high activity (steps and stairs) put me right within the same range (generally +/- 200 cals based on output). On the current live build; it might be the most consistent I have had with the watch! Even the OHRM used passively for RHR and activity tracking has been pretty consistent.

All this makes me nervous for a new beta/eventual live release now. The watch is working...please don't break it Garmin.
  • Non Public Beta 8.94 out...

It clearly isn't "out" - it might *exist* but that's a very different thing

    Non Public Beta 8.94 out...

I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm curious why you always post when a new non public beta is "out"? As stated above, it's not "out" where any of us can use it and since we can't, we have no idea if it really exist and what changes have been made. I'm wondering what's the point of your announcements?
