935 Won't Sync Workouts with Garmin Connect (Web/App) or Garmin Express

I used to not have an issue syncing workouts and using them with my watch so this isn't a newbie issue :) I'm not exactly sure when it started, but it has been around a month now (so version 7.0/7.1 on the 935). I was hoping an update would fix it, but have had no luck.

For Garmin app, I'm using the Google Pixel 2 XL so Android (the app has an issue that before it wouldn't have a check mark on the workout that isn't synced, but mine all show check marks and then lights up when I hit the check mark again and then it goes through, but it doesn't sync to the watch).

But I've also tried using the web based Garmin Connect with Garmin Express from a PC (GE updated today and it didn't work before or after). I know I've seen others report success with that but I've not been able to replicate.
  • GC Mobile is definitely broken but GC Web works for me. What is broken for you in GC/GE? Does the sync work or not? Do you just not see it on the watch? Explain the issue and I might be able to help

  • I've tried GC Web and it isn't working for me. I go to GC on the web and select to send a workout to device (my 935) and it brings up GE and says it needs to sync and it does the sync successfully. But then when I check my watch the new workout isn't there. I have run workouts and I'm trying to add swim workouts and a run workout and none of them appear. Swim just says to Download workouts from Garmin Connect and run only shows my old runs before this was all broken.
  • How many workouts do you already have on your watch? There’s a limit I think so try deleting some off before syncing.
  • Have you tried the workaround with assigning workout to calendar and sync? For some this works...
  • There's a known bug in the latest IOS version of GCM. As said above the is a work around where you add it to your calendar and it will put the workout on your watch when you artic the calendar.
  • I tried deleting some workouts and was unable to get them delete so it shouldn't be a capacity concern. I probably only have fifteen to twenty workouts on there. I know an earlier version had a limit of 20, but it is supposed to be higher on the 935.

I did try assigning to calendar and that didn't work either. When you assign it by calendar do you launch the workout differently?
  • unable to get them delete so it shouldn't be a capacity concern

Would you explain this a bit more? How can not being able to delete mean that it shouldn't be a capacity problem? Perhaps there's something else happening here.
Another option, when connected to Garmin Express on a computer, is to physically remove them from the Workouts directory.
  • The consistency and correctness of automatic tranfers
ofnworkouts to Garmon Connect Mobile (IOS) seems to have got steadily worse over the past few releases (months). When I first got the FR935 it was as dependable as anything. Do a workout and it would immediately copy to Connect and then to Strava. Great. Now it’s completet random as to whether the workout copies once, twice or not at all. A few days ago I I’d to go in and delete a duplicated run from Garmin and Strava. Today I have a run on my watch and try as much as I like it won’t transfers to Garmin at all. I’ll have to do it manually as I have many times in the past few months.

its hard for me to give any specifics as all I do is run and start and stop the watch. And then it either copies or it doesn’t. Nothing different in what I do. Same random behaviour on my current iPhone X as was on my previous iPhone 6 on different versions of IOS.

As with the starter of this threat, it’s not a newbie thing; it just doesn’t work properly.
  • philipshambrook I looked in the Garmin Express and I'm using 3 out of 36 storage units. I did check and i have 25 workouts on there when I browse the watch storage like a folder (without Garmin Express). I believe an older watch like the 620 had a limit of 20 and they were going to make it greater for future watches. I would think only allowing five more would be a bit short sighted. I would hope the watch supports more workouts than that as that is less than 10 per sport if someone is a triathlete.

I don't know how to identify my workouts as they appear to be .fit files. I tried opening a .ft file with a text editor and it appears as garbled text. If there is a way to browse workouts from Garmin Express or view the storage, I would need some help there. Garmin Express appears to have limited options in terms of what it can do as far as I can tell. I've used 7MB out of 54MB so there is a lot of available storage.
  • I had recently the following case. 2 swim workouts with the swim HRM, both were successfully saved on the watch, but not synced onto the GCM. I tried afterwards on the Pc with garmin express. the sync was unsuccessful since I got an error indication "Invalid FIT file". hence something were wrong with the saving of the workouts on the watch. I deleted manually the FIT file in the ACTIVITY folder of the watch (windows explorer), and then the sync with the garmin express was resumed successfully. However I lost the FIT file and the workout.
I don't think this has to do with capacity on teh watch, but something goes wrong with the saving of the workout. And both of them were swim workouts with the swim HRM.
    Any similar experiences?
    thanks
PS: both cases appeared with different FW, the latest with the 7.10
