Heart rate only during activity

Hi! Is there a way to activate the heart rate sensor only during activities? I only need HR while running but when I set the HR sensor to auto it stays active after the run.
  • when you say you don't need HR what do you mean? I believe that the additional battery drain on the 935 is minimal so you have nothing to lose. Having said that the main use for the Optical sensor is really recording HR outside of specific activities such as running cycling etc as an Optical monitor is in many cases less accurate and responds more slowly than a chest strap. Do you find that you get an accurate reading whilst running or have you nothing to compare with? If you are using HR as a key metric for your training and workouts I would strongly suggest that you use a Chest strap or at least borrow one to validate that your wrist readings are accurate
  • You have to set it to Off after every activity and to Auto before you start an activity. It would have been nice to have a hotkey for it.. but it doesn't bother me too much.

Thank you for the replies. It's not like it is a big issue for me, I just sometimes forget to turn the HR sensor on before starting a run and then it's a little cumbersome to activate it while running. I really like the option to turn on the gesture based back light only during activities and I thought maybe there's a similar feature for the HR sensor. Are you sure about the battery drain? I just can not imagine that having HR turned on 24/7 instead of 2h a week won't affect battery life siginficantly. Currently I only have to charge my FR every three weeks.

When it comes to accuracy I'm very happy with the FR935. I have used a chest strap on a previous GPS watch and another watch with a wrist based HR sensor and I got similar accuracies on all three watches but I'm usually running on a steady pace with a fairly consistent HR. I also consider myself only a casual runner so HR is really just an indicator for me that helps me adjust my pace.
  • Well my 935 uses about 1% in 8hrs with hrm on so about 3% a day

Without any GPS activities that should give me about 4 weeks between charging

However I normally run and swim 5 or 6 times a week with chest strap in both cases and GPS for running (which I think is probably the biggest power drain)

I charge about every week and a half
