Running Dynamics Pod battery life

I have had to replace the battery in my RD pod every 4 weeks because it no longer connects at the start of a run (it connects after about a half hour of running or not at all) and a new battery fixes it for some time. I wonder how other people's experiences are with the RD pod in that respect, how long before you have to replace the battery?
  • The RD pod should go to sleep when not used for battery saving. It needs some movement to wake up. If - for example - you wear your RD pod all the time, or have it in your backpack which you carry a lot, then a much shorter battery life is to be expected, because the pod is awake all the time. Just my hypothesis.
  • The pod is only picked up and moved around some 10 minutes before and after a run, and I don't use it on all runs. I get maybe 12 1-hour runs out of one battery. If this is how it is suppposed to be, I will sell this pod because this is inconvenient for me. But if it is not, I will send it to Garmin for repair.
  • Battery life according to the manual is 1 year at about 1 hr per day. As long as you are using the correct battery, then clearly something's wrong.
  • It's been like this since the device was new, out of the box it stopped connecting after a few runs. In the FIT files the battery status is 3 (OK) so indeed something else must be wrong.

Edit: Phoned Garmin support and they will replace it. Thanks Garmin!
  • Sounds like something is wrong there. The battery should not be dead in that amount of time. And it doesn't matter if you carry it on you or not, it does not connect to your watch until you start an activity profile that uses it and THEN it should connect.

Being an ANT+ sensor it transmits as soon as it wakes up - it doesn't matter if anything is listening, and thus when moving around a lot it will deplete the battery even if it is not connected or even paired to a watch.
