Battery drain when I'm not wearing the watch

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with my Forerunner 935, which in general I like very much.
Thing is that the battery life seems to be fine when I'm wearing the watch. However if I leave the watch of my wrist and leave it on, the battery is empty in 3 or 4 hours.

- The heartrate sensor seems to switch of properly (green light goes out)
- Hard reset did not help
- Factory rest did not help
- Garmin Express says I have the latest software installed (6.10 e950e19)

Any tips on how to get this resolved? Thanks!
  • Try a soft reset = press and hold the power button until it shuts off. Then restart

Thanks for helping out. I thought that pressing the power button until it shuts off was a 'hard reset' :-). So I tried this already and did not have any effect.
  • Try the suggestion on P28 of the user manual

Failing that there's the hard reset that will wipe out all your user settings, which I think is this:

Press and hold both buttons on right side
Press but don’t hold the POWER BUTTON for a second or so – device should turn on
Wait for 1st beep then release UPPER BUTTON
Wait for 2nd beep then release LOWER BUTTON

  • Hard reset is press and hold the power button for at least 15 secs until powers off. Sounds like that is probably what you did though. If so could try the master reset as Philip mentioned in last message.
  • Thanks again for the advice guys. I did the hard reset including the user settings wipe out like Philip suggested and its now syncing for the 'first time' now (which seems to take forever but guess I need to be patient), I'll keep you updated on whether this was successful!
  • Clearly my terminology is a little out lol!. I use the term soft reset as with that one you get to keep all your data as opposed to the hard or master reset where you get to lose it all. We essentially have 3 options:

Power cycle - simply turn off and on - eg a simple reboot
Hard/soft reset - press and hold the power button until the device turns off, then restart. Keeps all data and user settings.
Master/hard reset - Press and hold both buttons on right side
Press but don’t hold the POWER BUTTON for a second or so – device should turn on
Wait for 1st beep then release UPPER BUTTON
Wait for 2nd beep then release LOWER BUTTON
  • Haha not a problem, thanks for helping me out here! Thing is that I tried them all and the're all not working for me.
On my wrist I'm only losing 1% of battery in 8 hours of sleeping. Of my wrist not doing anything with it is loosing 40% in a little bit over 2 hours :-(.

I'll try disabling the heartrate sensor, see if that 'helps'.
  • Yep, did that this morning. Thanks for the support
