performance data transfer

Hi

I got my 935 about 3 months ago, and did about 20 runs since. Every time I do a run it calculates the running performance data (Performance Condition, Training Effect etc).
The more runs I did the more accurate the values get or should get, is that correct (As far as how accurate this type of measurement can get of course) ?
Indeed I saw that the performance condition value got more accurate after more runs.

But, a month ago, the display started to get white and the 935 was completely dead after some hours. So I sent it back to garmin and they sent me a new one.
I synced the watch again with Connect, set all up etc. But the performance values where all gone, I had no good value of the training effect on the first run I did with the new watch.

Is there a way to copy the performance data from the old to the new watch?
(I saved the complete garmin folder of the old watch on my pc)

Or is it just my imagination that the values are off and the watch takes the "old" runs into account for calculating the performance data ??

thanks
regards
Erich
  • When you get a new watch (or you factory reset your existing watch) you lose this data and it can’t be transferred back. You have to start again getting your watch to learn you (but you have all of the history on Garmin Connect)
  • Hi

Thanks for the info. Why is that ? I think on feature that is really missing is a backup/restore feature for the watches. Is it really so hard to implement such a feature, storage space cant be an issue ?

I think I am not the only one who would like to see this feature !!

    thanks
    regards
    Erich
  • All these features are provided by firstbeat and I guess they say so! It will only take a week to get them back though.

Funny. I'm not sure that's how it works though. ;-)

I suspect it has something to with the fact that the Firstbeat analytics engine is an embedded system, which is great for doing fancy calculations with very, very low power requirements (huge deal for wearables) and making use of raw sensor data. The downside is that you can't just throw data from other devices/sources into the mix.

^^^ This is well outside my area of expertise, btw, so... it's likely true, but possibly not 100% accurate.

  • downside is that you can't just throw data from other devices/sources into the mix.

Logically you could just re-enter the data from the same device to replicate the history. I can understand not entering data from a different device to avoid complications, but not when that data has been collected in a similar device.

It's no big deal anyway as it only takes a couple of activities before 'normal service' is resumed.
  • There is also the practical element that a lot of metrics are based on what has happened in the last week (particularly training load/condition). Also things like VO2 Max and LT are in constant flux but it is the long term trend that is the key thing.

So even if you could "restore" this data it would go "stale" in a few days anyway.
  • Wish Garmin did centralize performance information in Connect. This is something that I appreciate about Polar Flow over Garmin Connect. I've always liked the holistic view, even if you are using multiple devices and can see things like recovery times and training load.
