Happy with GPS and instant pace?

Hi there, I am a former owner of Fenix 5 Sapphire and I was wondering if 935 owners were happy with their watch for:
GPS accuracy
instant pace while running
connection with foot pod and/or HR strap
I've been searching the forum without much luck...
thanks
  • Given that the FR935 is effectively a Fenix 5 in a plastic case - pretty much everything that applies to the F5 range applies to the FR935
  • There are more complaints on the GPS on the F5 thread than there are on the 935 thread. The cynic in me thinks that’s because people in the F5 thread have unreal expectations but maybe there is something in the case which mKes a difference. Instant pace should be the same. Again, more people complain on the F5 thread, but it’s easily rectified by using lap pace or a CIQ averaging data field

I would think the cynic in you may be on to something and that something may have to do with price.
  • GPS accuracy has been fine. It slightly under reports but it is always the same. Pace on the watch with or without HRM-TRI is better than the Fenix 5 I had and returned. I think it does a pretty decent job. I haven't felt the need to get a foot pod. Bluetooth connection to my phone is rock solid whereas the Fenix 5 was always disconnecting. I don't believe I had any of the ANT+ problems with the strap and the F5 mind but I never checked the FIT files so who knows. The 935 is a far better training tool
  • I owned a fenix 5 for a month (right after release) and was NOT happy with gps or instant pace... Switched for the FR935 and was happy since then regarding GPS. Instant pace has always been flakey on every watch for me so no comments on that.

Seems better on the 935 but still hardly usable
  • Notably this is the first post on this I can recall in months. By and large if you don't see posts here on something as fundamental as this then there isn't much to worry about.
  • GPS accuracy[..]connection with foot pod and/or HR strap

GPS accuracy: exactly the same as my Epix and Fenix 3, on known routes all three agree within 1% and that's perfectly OK for me.
Connection with foot pod and HR strap: good, but the ANT+ range seems to be shorter than for the Epix and Fenix 3. It is not noticeable when using HR strap, foot pod, or bike sensors, but the FR935 can not pick up Tempe sensors more than ~3 meters away or with a wall in between (Epix and Fenix can pick them up from ~6 meters or with a wall between). I bought the FR935 instead of the Fenix 5 because I read worrying reports on ANT+ connectivity on Fenix 5 not always being very good, and I'm happy with how well the FR935 performs overall.
  • I always use a foot pod for current pace, but on my run this morning I turned it off and used GPS for current pace and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was perfect the entire run.
  • I posted some complaints about my 935 gps accuracy ... since then Garmin decided to change my watch. I did a test again last week on the same course and the conclusion is : better GPS accuracy but still far from my 910 or my phone
I'm no cynic ... I just expect a new device to perform at least as well as its predecessor but I amy be expecting too much
