Big white area on screen

Hi

Since today I have a big white area on my screen. It stays there even if i switch it off!
Did anybody have this problem ? Is there another solution other than returning it for repair ? I have a marathon on sunday and I need it then.
The second is, that the background light flickers if it is turned on.
(Thats not a reflection on the image!)

thanks
regards

  • That looks like a return for repair thing... Water damage somehow maybe? Or extreme pressure or heat?

Wrt the marathon, an option might be to use datafields that allow you to show the info you need at the top half. Maybe spread across different screens... That will get you over the marathon after which you can send it in for repair.
  • I agree. And they generally don't repair, but send you a new or refurb one. But not in time for Sunday. Test that it works for that length without worsening first.
  • I would call Garmin right now and tell them the situation. They have always been very responsive to me over the years and I have received replacement watches overnight. They may ask for a deposit or something but I think you have a chance to get a replacement for your race.
  • Thanks for your replies. I called the support, and they told me to send it to them, but it takes about 10 days to be returned. They cannot offer me a replacement )-: So I will wait till next week to send it. The problem is, that the area got bigger since the last hours, so I hope it doesnt get over the whole screen till sunday. It takes up about 2/3 of the screen now )-: I will put it aside till sunday I think.

Another short question: To backup my settings all I have to do is to copy the garmin folder, is that correct? When I get the new one I just have to copy it back?

    thanks for your help

  • Ugh, risky... Can't you get a cheap (maybe extra) watch for the marathon? Or borrow one? Would suck if it got worse during running and messes up your marathon...

To be honest, backing up and restoring never worked to well for me actually, but it SHOULD be a matter of copying the proper files from the garmin folder yeah (not simply the entire thing though as far as I know, but a number of specific subfolders and files)
  • Hi, unfortunately I cant get another one. But because I will take my phone with me I will have to use runtastic as a backup. If the watch fails during running I still have my pace/distance data on the phone, not good, but at least I have some time/distance data to see if I should speed up.

I bought Peters Race Pacer extra for the marathon and now I cannot use it because the watch is broken :(:(:(

EDIT: Watch died completely, whole screen is white )-: thats it for the marathon....
  • Meh, that sucks... But maybe better before then during as that would annoy me massively I guess.

Any idea what could have caused this? Any bump, hitting, stuff like that? Or just random bad luck...
