inconsistencies of shown max-heart-rate of an activity

Hi all,

After yesterdays activity with the HMR-tri i have noticed that there were inconsistencies between what's displayed as max-heart-rate for this day/activity between the unit itself, garmin connect on the iphone (three different values) and garmin connect on the pc.

In the attached images it can be seen that GC on the PC tells me the max heart rate was 179, while the iphone says it was 176 in the "daily details" and 174 in the heart-rate details. If i check the written summary of the activity again 179 is mentioned.
The watch itself claims the high of the activity was 175, making it 4 different values on 5 screens.

I do believe that the 179 is right, but wonder why all of them show different values and are not synced properly?

I will get in touch with Garmin support for this, but wanted to check if anyone else is seeing similar behavior?

thanks,
Chris

  • There was a post in the fenix 5 forum a while back where somebody mentioned the same thing, turned out that Max HR is calculated differently for different things. Can't remember the exact details but I think for the widget is was highest value held for two seconds (or was it two-second average?) while in a recorded activity you would obviously have HR recorded at least every second. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Found it, here it is: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/fenix-5-5s/154687-
  • thanks for the link, that can explain the difference that's seen on the watch itself..

i'm still a bit unsure about whether garmin connect shows 3 different values though, but once i'll get a response from garmin i'll make sure to post it here
