Setting (very small) wheel size for indoor trainer

So I recently bought a new indoor bike trainer, an Elite Qubo Digital Smart B+. When I connected my 935 to it via ANT+ I noticed that speed was completely off, showing me at up to 190km/h sometimes. Contacted Elite-Support and they told me that I'm supposed to put the size of the roller (47mm) into the sensor-setting for wheel size. Now this setting was split into two double-digit forms by Garmin so you could somewhat easily go from the highest value (9999mm) to the lowest (100mm). And that's exactly my problem, the lowest value for the first two digits is 1, but the lowest for the last two digits is 00, so there's no way for me to set it to the required 47mm.

Already tried contacting both Garmin Support and the Beta Team but haven't heard back from either after a week.

Has anyone of you guys had a problem like this or maybe a workaround or a tip?

  • Yeah http://www.elite-it.com/en/products/gb/trainers/interactive/qubo-digital-smart-b#spec suggests it has virtual power and speed/cadence sensors you can pair to. Not clear, is that what you did?
  • There is a way I use to change settings like these that may also work in this case, I have sent the OP a PM about that.
  • OnlyTwo Don't have a speed sensor on the bike itself. And you are right, I could just disconnect the speed and cadence sensor and work with power only but I'd still like to record those two things if it would somehow be possible.

Yup, that's what I did. The trainer itself broadcasts power and speed/cadence whilst you are riding via ANT+ and BT. So these sensors show up in Settings -> Sensors, that's where I was trying to change the wheelsize.
Also, I don't really want to use BT since I ride with Zwift on my laptop and record the ride at the same time on the 935, however, as I have learned, as soon as a BT connection is established the ANT+ broadcast gets shut down. And since you can only connect one device via BT, my Zwift + 935 setup wouldn't be possible.

    Twinaxx You've got mail ;)
  • Seems odd to me that Elite want you to enter such a small value. Be interesting to know what head units they think their product works with in this regard. With my Tacx Genius I seem to get a "sensible" speed/distance value just on Auto or by entering my wheel size 2096mm (700Cx23).

If say you enter 470 instead of 47 do you get a speed value that is a factor of 10 too quick?
  • Of possible relevance , this is not the same trainer but
http://forum.elite-it.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=65&p=105&hilit=Edge#p105 talks about a "fudge factor" of 13.2.
  • So I set it to 470mm as you suggested and the factor of 10 theory seems to be correct. Look at this 1min test ride: at around 11 seconds in I crossed 230kph (23kph in reality), which as per this thread seems like the highest speed you can record. So it seems like the only way to go is changing the setting to 47mm unfortunately.
  • I don't have the tools available to change the settings file (although I'd be interested to try it myself) but Twinaxx is working on it for me.
  • thanks for the reply
keep us informed if it is going to work for your setup

forum policy is very open these days regarding 'bending' files :)

Always got to be a bit careful "bending" your files in case it has undesired effects. SETTINGS.FIT is at least one file you can take a copy of restore later if say you had to reset your watch. Take a copy of the existing one before you try and overwrite (actually would need to go into NEWFILES).
  • I have second thoughts about this. I may lots of experience changing settings(files) on my own devices - but that's the point, they were my own devices, and not someone else's. My apologies for launching the idea to change the settings.

Don't worry about it. I'll just have to accept that it's currently not possible to change the setting. My "solution" for now is that I have simply deactivated the speed/cadence sensor and only record power on the 935, whereas on Zwift I record everything.

Interestingly my 935 hasn't found any of the BT sensors from the trainer. Seems like I have this exact problem from the F5 forum that for them was solved by installing the newest FW (which I am on, 5.30 as of yesterday):
So my watch wont give me the chance to choose Bluetooth when I am pairing. It will only show the ANT+ pairing. Funny enough, it shows a glimpse of "show bluetooth sensors" but it disappears so quickly it is impossible to press the button. Had to film it to capture it.
