FR 935 and Edge 820: talking to each other?

Hey,

I just was wondering that on my FR 935 history does not appear any ride I did using the Edge 820.

For my understanding and since the FR 935 can record bike rides too, the history should include the cycling activities too, e.g. updating/syncing via GC (there, everything is available)

Do I miss something or is this capability not available for FR 935?

A perfect comment on this issue by DC Rainmaker (Garmin Edge 1030 In-Depth Review) and why the data should be in sync:
Now one big bummer here is that while all of this was introduced on the Fenix 5 and FR935, none that data carries over here. I?m a perfect example of why this matters. I generally ride with a separate Edge unit, but I run with a FR935. So all my recovery metrics wouldn?t really be complete on either device (especially the Edge, sans-running data). Ideally, we?d see Garmin carry these metrics across behind the scenes with Garmin Connect, like they do for steps via TrueUp. Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later.

That is exactly the situation I am in.
  • This is the way I run it with my F3HR and Edge 1000:

    1) Record on my Edge
    2) Duplicate record on my F3HR using the indoor bike app, speed/distance etc is recorded from the sensor.

At at the end of the ride, I save the ride on the Edge, and upload that to GC. The ride on the F3HR is then discarded. This still gives me recovery time on the F3HR and maintains a level of consistency.

I am am not sure if on the 935 this would give training load too, but it's the approach I'm going to take when mine arrives tomorrow. Time will tell.
  • When you get the 935, since the 935 does more with the data than the Edge 1000, to benefit you'll need to save on the 935 instead of the Edge 1000. If there is a way to turn off automatic upload on the Edge then you could save on both.

PS: The 1030 has the same training load analysis as the 935

You will need to save your activity on the 935 to see training load being computed to include that activity.
  • I managed to get out on my bike and test my setup in post 13 using the 935. At the end of the ride, when discarding on the 935 it gave me a training effect score (2.3 and 0), an recovery time and an increase in my training load (427 to 449). It was an easy 11 km cycle home from work so the numbers seem about right.

It appears then that as long as you record it, the 935 will adjust training load without having to save the activity. I'll do some more testing on longer rides that should generate a bigger increase, hopefully this weekend. If it works, then I'll keep on doing it that way as it will give me what I need.
