[Feature Request] Adding Waypoints

Sorry for being stupid here, but how can you create a waypoint if you don't know where you are?

...yes, I have been outside even very nasty rain seems to cover the city since hours. And I stayed even longer to get a lock after a reboot of the watch - this took "only" 3 to 4 minutes...

Sorry, I forgot to mention I would like to add a "dummy" waypoint to set the coordinates by hand. The functionality for editing a waypoint is given, so it would be simple to call this function from here and there. In the widget the option could be called "Enter Coordinates" and wouldn't change the standard behaviour when saving the actual position. In the navigation app there are two options to create a specific waypoint: an additional menu entry called "copy waypoint" or "create waypoint".

Why I should do so? To create some POI''s by using the coordinates (from a map software, booking information etc.) even with no GPS available. This may help visiting an unknown city but I also loved to have certain markers saved in my forerunner watches before I did long cross runs in difficult terrain.

Sorry to highjack this thread, but this is likely indicative of something wrong with the GPS. I've never experienced long delays such as this in getting GPS lock with previous devices, despite having travelled to different countries and used them. While I've not had really long delays with my 935, it definitely doesn't 'snap' to GPS lock like my 920 in the house or outside.

Would having a waypoint set make any difference?

I am using my 935 for three months now and it usually is ready in just few seconds, but sometimes (let''s say in 5%) it takes one or two minutes. One time it took a little but longer I switched the watch off and on and got the lock within few seconds.
Actually I am standing outside with a lot of taller buildings around me - and it still rains...
...not the best parameters to get a quick GPS lock. Anyhow, yesterday I waited "endless" (means, pressing regularly a button or the widget "save position" stops after two minutes. After around 12 minutes the red colored indicator increased rapidly to "nearly full" but then nothing happened until I gave up and did a switch off/on...

Not for getting a GPS lock, but it would help to create waypoints independently where you are - in the airplane, at home, thousands of kilometers away from your next destination. You can prepare a set of position markers you will need in the future and not only create a waypoint where you are just now. I know, there''s no difference if you gave a GPS lock, but it''s not a big deal to add just two menu options to jump to already implemented dialog forms - and it could help in certain moments.
If creating a dummy waypoint is irretating, copying an existent waypoint would be also enough to allow adding waypoints without a GPS lock. Otherwise you would need to prepare multiple dummy waypoints sometimes which could be edited later on - but I don't like such workarounds :)

What you can do is the following:

1. Go to navigate (either from within an activity or the navigate app itself)
2. Choose 'coordinates'
3. Enter coordinates and press OK, this will bring you to the start navigating screen
4. Exit the activity
5. The coordinates are now stored in your "Stored Locations" with the name 'Coordinates'
6. Adjust name and/or coordinates as needed
7. Rinse and repeat ;)

Seems to work here, only issue is that the coordinates have to be entered in a specific way (not latlon) so depending on where you get your coordinates from you might need to translate them first...

Btw, every now and then my gps lock is tricky as well. Most of the times it works fine but sometimes it takes long (and hangs on the yellow/orange circle most of the times in that case). A restart of the watch indeed fixes that... Kinda weird, but ok.

I get this about once a month with the 935 and the fix is the same. I think it's probably a bug but since I can't replicate it and have not noticed a pattern it seemed pointless logging it with Garmin :)

I agree that the 935 and Fenix line need to have a more straightforward way of managing waypoints when you are planning a route.

In the UK, it is common for walkers to use co-ordinates based on the British National Grid system when navigating in the hills. This allows you to easily navigate to landmarks such as mountain summits using six figure grid references. On the 935/Fenix, there is no straightforward way of saving a waypoint before you head out on your walk. There is only an option for saving current location when you have a GPS fix (and then editing the co-ordinates after the waypoint has been saved), or navigating straight to set co-ordinates (but this doesn't save the location as a waypoint).

The watch could do with improving the navigation feature as it's a great tool for navigation but the software lacks basic waypoint management ability.

Actually, the 'navigating straight to coords' does add it as a waypoint it seems (see my previous post in this thread). After setting coordinates to navigate to I then find those under 'saved locations' as well, with the name 'coordinates'.
