Which HR Strap

I have a 935 and Running Dynamics Pod - together, they give me everything except the metrics depending on HRV. I only Run, Hike and Strength Train (Weights) - no swimming / bike etc.

I am planning to get a HR Strap for occasional use - so that I can do HRV Stress test once in a while. Most of the time I would just run with 935 and the RD Pod

Is the "Garmin Premium Heart Rate Monitor" enough for this job, or do I need to get the HRM-Run / HRM-Tri? The premium is half price of Tri, and given my occasional use and the fact that I have the RD Pod already, I was hoping to save some money. Any other factors that are in play that I am not aware of?
  • I think the HRM-tri has a memory built in, so that if it is not connected to the watch during a session it is able to send over the data afterwards. This is useful for swimming where the HR belt and watch lose connection due to the water, or any other situation where the connection may be lost.
  • For a 3 min stress test, you certainly don't need the most advanced HRMs. For the stress test I use my old Garmin strap (HRM1G). Works perfect, and you can pick one up for ~$20 on ebay (new). I occasionally still run with it - it is less comfortable and has no memory, but it is just as accurate to my knowledge. Perfect for occasional use (like a stress test).
  • Any Garmin strap will do if you don't need RD (since you have a RD pod) or don't need the HR storage facility when say swimming.

That said the HRM-Tri gives you all the things you can use a 935 with plus personally I find it most comfortable of all the Garmin straps.
  • You can pick up a HRM-Run for £58 on Amazon. You can get a HRM-Tri for £10 more, but if you don't do any swimming you may as well just get the HRM-Run.

    I'm in the same boat!

Looking around, there's the even less expensive model: https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-MAIN-61562-Heart-Rate-Monitor/dp/B000UOD5QM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498486462&sr=8-2&keywords=garmin+heart+rate+monitor

Does any know if this will still do the job for getting enough information for the HRV Stress test on our device?

    should do yes.
  • You could always grab a Polar H7 to use with the running dynamics pod. The H7 is dirt cheap right now. I've seen it on amazon a few times sub $30 (but it hovers around the $35-$40 mark normally). I never owned one but read people here in the past speak very highly of the strap.
